There is a trend for jewellery

"I simply love Mexico," she states. "I feel very drawn to the culture, colours, life. I hope to capture some of the vibrant colours, costume and culture in my jewellery, such as my Mexican Rosary range."

The collection in question features bright blue, yellow and pink rosary-style necklaces adorned with skull charms or tiny framed images of religious icons such as the Virgin Mary.

These wearable, pop-colour designs are echoed by the friendship bracelet brand Hipanema, which has taken humble woven bracelets and given them a fashion makeover with studs, crystals, seed beads, shells and tassels. The bracelets also feature smart magnetic clasps rather than string ties, giving them an instant luxe upgrade that takes them from Mexican market stall to boutique must-have. Hipanema – founded by two French friends who met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – has already won retail stockists in the UK including the likes of Charles Fish, Urban Outfitters and Not On the High Street.

Charles Fish marketing director Jane Paine explains: "There is a trend for jewellery that references far-flung destinations and ancient tribes – pieces that have home-made vibes, such as Hipanema's mixed material bracelets. They’re great worn solo or stacked with other favourite bangles for a hint of hippy chic."

Charles Fish has used the bracelets and other pieces in its new marketing campaign,The smart card has a memory chip embedded in it that, Summer Mix, which has broken new jewellery trends down into six themes, one of which it has called Tribal Texturing. "It features bright colour, beaded and embroidered jewellery," adds Paine.

British jeweller Anabel Campbell has created a collection of bright, geometric beaded cuffs and slimline beaded bangles with a Mexican vibe – a range that has won attention from Boticca, Wolf & Badger and Brighton's Union Jewellery.

But the Mexican trend is not just about colour. Silver is the metal of Mexico and thus many brands have created contemporary silver designs with Central American connotations, featuring motifs such as tribal masks or shapes based on Mexican myths and symbolism.

The result is collections such as Voodoo by Lee Renee, which features stud earrings,Find great deals on eBay for stainless steel bracelet Bracelet in Fashion Jewelry Bracelets. rings and pendants depicting tribal masks set with gemstones.

Renee uses stones such as opal, which is native to certain parts of Mexico,The Warehouse offers a tremendous selection of stainless steel bangle at great prices. as well as enamel to add dashes of colour. Her Erzulie Voodoo Enamel necklace is one such piece, boasting turquoise enamel and four opals, used for the stone's mythical connotations.

ChloBo founder Chloe Moss spent time travelling across Mexico and Central America and similarly says it is the spirituality and religious iconography of the continent that has inspired her recent line of silver bracelets, with the themes translated into etched crucifix and angel charms.

Moss explains: "Catholicism remains very much the dominant religion in Mexico and this is reflected in iconography across the country depicting Jesus, saints or angels. These act as a source of inspiration for worshippers, so I found it fitting to use [these themes] as inspiration for my new collections."

This spirituality and ancient mythology is also echoed in the silver jewellery created by Dominique Lucas. Not only do her Venom rings hint at the shapes and carvings found on Mexico's Mesoamerican pyramids, but her jewellery also references ancient Mayan beliefs.

"My fascination with ancient symbolism began six years ago whilst I was living in Mexico studying jewellery design," Lucas explains. The Brilliant Polish of a tungsten jewelry What is Tungsten? "In Mayan philosophy we each have our own spirit animal that is closely and intrinsically linked to ourselves. This collection of animal jewellery is an ode to this philosophy. "

which could be made brighter only through

It would be hard to imagine a more misleading title than “Fiercely Modern: Art of the Naga Warrior,” the name of a show at the Rubin Museum of Art. The Naga, a diverse collection of peoples speaking similar languages and residing in a mountainous area in northeastern India, certainly were fierce. Headhunting was one of their prized pursuits. But they were far from modern by present-day standards. In fact, the culture of the Naga was nearly destroyed by modern Europeans. First came mid-19-century subjugation by the British,The smart card has a memory chip embedded in it that, who wanted to stop the irritation of headhunting raids on neighboring Indian territories. Then American Baptist missionaries invaded, eventually succeeding in almost totally suppressing the Naga’s “satanic” practices and converting nearly all of the population to nominal Christianity.

Including clothing, jewelry, weapons and ceremonial objects, the Rubin’s exhibition serves more as an enticing introduction than a deep and wide exploration of its subject. It was drawn from a collection assembled in the 1930s by the anthropologist Christoph von Furer-Haimendorf and now owned by the Welt Museum Wien in Vienna.Find great deals on eBay for stainless steel bracelet Bracelet in Fashion Jewelry Bracelets.

The exhibition’s most attractive objects are those worn by warriors, including bracelets, chest pieces and elaborate ceremonial headdresses made from metal, beads, feathers, animal bones and teeth, dyed hair and fur. Many are extraordinarily beautiful and positively flamboyant. Wonderfully imaginative hats rigged with extensions from which hang feathers, hair and other richly colored materials have a surrealistic and sometimes comical appearance that might have inspired Dr. Seuss. The Warehouse offers a tremendous selection of stainless steel bangle at great prices.

To contemporary Western eyes, however, the most sophisticated works are the shawls and wrap skirts, which, in the Naga’s strict division of labor, were woven exclusively by women. With their stripes, grids and zigzagging lines producing rhythmic geometric patterns, the textiles on view look as if they were designed by a mid-20th-century Modernist like Anni Albers.

The Naga were not just aesthetes, however. The things they made were loaded with codified meanings. Motifs woven into shawls and skirts could be read by others as indicators of identity, status, family relations and notable accomplishments. A striking example consists of gridded red and black squares and stripes. The museum label explains: “The large black boxes on each end represent the dark side of life, which could be made brighter only through headhunting and hosting feasts of merit. The red squares represent the parts of flesh distributed to the community after a successful headhunt, and the red on the edges commemorates the blood that has been spilled.”

For a modern viewer it is hard to fathom that something so lovely should be designed to celebrate such an abhorrent practice. The grisly style of a “Head Trophy” on display seems more appropriate. It consists of a series of woven rattan spheres hanging in a line ending at the bottom with a pair of human skulls, one of which has bull’s horns attached to each side. The horns, notes the museum label, were supposed to make the victim “deaf to the calls of his own community asking for the name of the man who had killed him.”

While this head trophy has a bracing and disturbing ugliness, what is more shocking is that headhunting was so thoroughly woven into the fabric of Naga culture at every level. Successful headhunters were like star athletes, admired by all and especially attractive to women. “A young man who had yet to bag a head would be teased by the girls in his clan, and simply ignored by those in other clans, where cards are embedded with chip card and a cardholder.” notes the introduction to “Naga Identities: Changing Local Cultures in the Northeast of India,” a book of scholarly essays sold in the museum bookstore and a must for anyone who wants to know more about the Naga.

More important, the Naga believed that bringing home heads would ensure the prosperity and general happiness of their village. It was important, for example, to consecrate with fresh heads the giant dugout log drums they made and used as musical instruments and as communication devices. On the other hand, daily life was not oriented around headhunting. It was an occasional activity pursued when villagers felt a need for community uplift. An old,The Brilliant Polish of a tungsten jewelry What is Tungsten? former headhunter quoted in “Naga Identities” said, “Headhunting, that was like Christmas!”

Mostly the Naga devoted themselves to the less sensational practices of farming and constructing mountainside villages of considerable complexity. Old photographs in “Naga Identities” show big thatched-roof houses outfitted with monumental wooden sculptures. The Rubin’s show gives but an intriguing glimpse of how highly developed Naga culture was.

Since World War II, Nagaland has been rived by continuous violent conflicts between the Indian government and groups seeking independence and, internally, between radical and conservative factions. To the extent that the old Naga culture survives today, it is in the form mostly of nostalgic revivals catering to tourists. Younger Nagas generally are more interested in assimilating into Western consumer and entertainment cultures than in connecting to their precolonial roots. As it does everywhere in the world, modernity rolls on, fiercely.

who owns Hoggs N Doggs barbecue trailer

At the West Fourth Avenue construction site on the bridge over Cow Creek, Jared Randolph retreated to his GMC Jimmy for two more bottles of water. Randolph, who has worked for Wichita-based Dondlinger Construction for three years, said his body has adjusted to long hours in extreme temperatures. The newer guys on the crew have a tougher time, but sweltering conditions can be dangerous for anyone.

"Our safety guy came out here and told us not to be afraid to take a breaks if we get tired or start cramping up," Randolph said. "When it's this hot outside, no one's going to say anything."

Decked in sweat-speckled gray T-shirt and khaki cargo pants, Randolph said beating the heat relies on common sense.

"Wear white and light colors," Randolph said. "Some guys soak bandanas in water and wear those. Drink tons of water, obviously, and take it easy on the coffee in the morning and beer at night."

Larry Ruthi, meteorologist at the National Weather Service Dodge City, agreed that with heat indices like Thursday's, hydration is key. But according to Ruthi, central Kansas may have seen the worst of the heat for now.The Brilliant Polish of a tungsten jewelry What is Tungsten?

"We'll have a week-long cold front coming through," Ruthi said. "It should cool down at least 10 degrees, and next week the highs only reach the mid-to-upper 80s."

Mark Carney donned a lightweight tank top Thursday and decided to work from home. But that didn't mean relaxing with the comforts of air conditioning. Carney, who owns Hoggs N Doggs barbecue trailer, pulled the meat smoker into his front yard near Fourth Avenue and Ford. He said he was confident the smell of smoked brisket and pulled pork would attract customers despite the oppressive weather.

"We're spending most of our morning getting misters and ice bottles for the animals," Hutchinson Zoo keeper Marcy Krause said. "And if we see an animal really distressed by the heat, we take them indoors, off display."

But less than four miles away at Strataca, or the Kansas Underground Salt Museum, it's an ideal 68 degrees. No one sets the thermostat; that's just how it feels 650 feet below the Earth's surface, according to Linda Schmitt, executive director of the Reno County Historical Society.

"Underground the weatheFind great deals on eBay for stainless steel bracelet Bracelet in Fashion Jewelry Bracelets.r is perfect all the time," Schmitt said. "It's very busy out here right now, maybe because it's our busy season, or maybe because guests just want somewhere to go that's not so hot."

A few lucky workers at Jackson Meat hardly noticed Thursday's furnace-like conditions. The store's cooler and freezer, about 32 and zero degrees respectively, more than make up for the heat. Seventeen-year-old Paige Stewart laughed as she cleaned her hands on her white apron.

Denis Ryan says his investigation into Catholic priest - Monsignor John Day - uncovered hundreds of cases of child sex abuse, but was smothered by Victoria Police and the church.

Mr Ryan has documented his quest for justice in a book released this week, and is telling his story for the first time.

Mr Ryan first came in contact with Father Day on the streets of St Kilda, in 1956, while on divisional van duties.

Day - drunk, disorderly, and with prostitutes - isn't charged.

Instead, Mr Ryan's sergeant arranges to have Day collected by two young priests from St Patrick's Cathedral.

"I was a little stunned,Shop the best selection of men's stainless steel ring. because irrespective of whether you're a priest or not, and I was a practicing Catholic, what right have you to then be excluded from what happens to others?"

On doctor's orders he transfers his young family to Victoria's far north-west, to be a detective at Mildura CIB.

Before leaving Melbourne, Mr Ryan is warned he won't get on with his new boss - senior detective Jim Barritt - "there's something wrong with him in the head", he's told.

Online vendors of trendy jewelry confirm the bracelets are gaining traction in their merchandising worlds.

Sandra Paetsch of Orange Avocado Jewelry says these bracelets are becoming popular because they’re easy to wear and offer personalization. In addition to the spectrum of colour choices and styling options, the stretchy bracelets feature little dangling charms. Plus they’re fun — you could say wearing them can be like playing jewelry Jenga.

“They can adapt to any personality and any outfit,” Paetsch says. “People are getting to be totally bold with their jewelry. And you don’t necessarily have to be a bold personality to wear all the stackable bracelets.

“I think it’s just people being adventurous and making it their own style. You can be bold and choose bigger beads and stack tons. Or if you’re more of a subtle personality, you can still stack but you might want to choose smaller beads and maybe neutral colours with a pop of colour.”

Paetsch’s bracelets stun in a variety of different colours and semi-precious stones such as agate, jade, river stone and turquoise. She first started making them as part of her jewelry collection after noticing the trend in fashion magazines over the last couple of years.

Paetsch says our current obsession with brightly coloured clothing spawned the wrist wrappers, becoming popular with fashion-forward individuals hungry to tailor their already fluorescent wardrobe with a statement accessory.

Kristen Mackie of Eliasz and Ella Jewelry at says customers ranging from 18 to 65 rock their bracelets because they’re both trendy and easy to wear. For those hesitant about mixing colour into their wardrobes, many choose to slip on four or five bright bangles with a neutral dress for an instant pop. They can also spice up a simple T-shirt and jeans.

“We notice a lot of people who buy two bracelets and the next week two more,” Mackie says. “Stacking is huge. Maybe they’ll buy a stack that we’ve showcased on a social media site.”

Both Paetsch and Mackie say there are many ways to wear the bracelets. You could choose a few in various shades of blue, break up a couple of the same colour with a pop of white, or simply stack on a whole rainbow. The possibilities are endless.

Mackie also says the charms speak to people.Enjoy the greatest selection ever of stainless steel pendant. Some will choose a passport charm if they travel, or a camera if they’re a photographer. But heart charms seem to be the biggest seller, especially for those being given as gifts.

Mateus Bistro perks up lunch with fresh fare

Matthew Krizan’s Mahone Bay restaurant, Mateus Bistro, will mark its third anniversary next month, no small feat in this very difficult business.

And since Krizan won the black box competition at this spring’s Saltscapes expo, Mateus has been doing more than surviving, it’s been thriving. So it was no surprise to find a patio full of diners on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

“Winning that contest — it definitely opened the Halifax door for me and got my name out in Halifax, for sure,” Krizan told me on the phone the night after three of us had lunch there.

When it’s hot out, the patio or the downstairs dining room is the best bet here as the main floor space, off the open kitchen, is almost as warm as the kitchen itself. We sat downstairs in what would once have been the basement of this 160-year-old building, but it’s much brighter than you’d expect, thanks to a screen door leading to the yard.

Vibrant art work on the walls adds even more cheer, as did the personality of our server, Kira. The wine list also made me happy, with a nice mix of old and new world wines and offerings from Petite Riviere, Grand Pre and Luckett. Beers from Propeller and Garrison are also available, your creative source for silicone bracelet business cards with your specialized. plus Stutz cider.

As we walked from the car to the restaurant, I told BJ I hoped the soup of the day would be gazpacho, which seemed appropriate to the weather. Also, I was extraordinarily hungry and gazpacho can usually be served very quickly. Turned out it had been the soup the day before, so I ordered a bowl of potato leek soup with white truffle oil.

The soup was at level 10 heat, and I was at level 10 hunger, so the first couple of spoonfuls didn’t taste like anything. But after it cooled and I calmed, I enjoyed the smooth texture of the soup, which made use of both plenty of pepper and the earthy, garlicky flavour of the oil to jazz up the two main ingredients.

Seafood chowder, with salmon, haddock and mussels, was similarly enjoyed, and before we got to the main part of our lunch, we shared a slice of the daily quiche, filled with so many ingredients that when Kira rattled them off I lost track. But I know red pepper,Transportation custom keychain Applications Ceremony. caramelized onion, asparagus and Parmesan were in there, which combined with fluffy egg and a perfectly browned crust to result in a very nice quiche.

Krizan does a unique turn on eggs Benedict, substituting his version of pulled pork for the ham. He starts with pork from Oulton’s or the British Butcher, braises it overnight with onions and apples, purees the resultant liquid and mixes it with the pork. Combine that with eggs delivered to Mateus from a local farm three times a week and hollandaise made to order, and this is an incredible dish.

The same pulled pork is on the menu on Barbecue Fridays,Private label and custom shoes manufacturer. when everything at the bistro comes off the grill.

Almost as good as the eggs benny is the smoked chicken club sandwich, starring chicken that Krizan smokes over hickory and apple, and cranberry aioli.

Fresh ground beef comes from Oulton’s so it’s nice and lean, but my burger would have benefited from more generous portions of smoked bacon, cheddar and aioli. As it was, a bit underwhelming.

Dressing for the caesar salad is made in-house and is on the creamy end of the spectrum, but no dressing could rescue the romaine, which was yellow and obviously the dregs of a head. It would have been better to say the caesar was n/a than to serve that lettuce. Conversely, salads with the sandwich,High quality plastic card printing for business cards, the quiche and the eggs benny were based on microgreens that were bright and crisp.

Mateus Bistro has a dedicated pastry chef and two desserts, crème brule and gateau de trois, a really decadent chocolate cake, were both phenomenal.Cheap custom printed logo USB flash drives wholesale at wholesale bulk prices.

Lunch for three, including tax and tip, was $123, but that figure is a bit deceiving. A couple with moderate appetites could easily have lunch for half that. Sit in Kira’s section.

The German fashion house Bruno Bananai

Bunny Yeager was a photographer at a time when men dominated that profession, but the model turned pin-up photographer used that to her advantage when photographing women in the 1950s and `60s.

She was able to make everyday women, from stay-at-home mothers to airline attendants, feel comfortable enough to bare it all. In the mid-1950s, she helped jump-start the career of then-unknown Bettie Page with her photo in Playboy. More than five decades after shooting the well-known stills of Page in a leopard-print bathing suit standing next to a real cheetah, 40 framed prints of her work are on display in a gallery in Wynwood, Miami's arts district.

"They all wanted to model for me because they knew that I wouldn't take advantage of them," Yeager, now 83, said of her models. "And I wouldn't push them to do nude if they didn't want to do nudes. It wasn't a day when nude photography was prevalent."

Wes Carson, a photography instructor at the Miami International University of Art & Design, said the way women were "surveyed" in Yeager's photographs was distinct from her male counterparts.

"When I look at her work, the women have a different demeanor," he said. "They are more confident. They are in charge of their sexuality, where if you look at someone else's work the women are much more dismissive and demure."

Last year, Yeager, a Pennsylvania native, published the coffee table book "Bunny Yeager's Darkroom" and is working on another book that will include her photos of Page. The German fashion house Bruno Bananai has a new line of swimwear based on the bikinis she designed for her models and she plans to photograph models again in her studio, if requests come in.Private label and custom shoes manufacturer.

Yeager, whose real name is Linnea Eleanor Yeager, was one of the most photographed models in Miami during her early career. Soon after taking a photography course at a local college, Yeager turned the camera on herself as she posed in bathing suits she handmade for her 5-foot-9 frame. Her self-portraits were turned into a book, "How I Photograph Myself," in 1964 and many of those photos – including Yeager in a red-striped low V-cut bathing suit and a white bikini covered in real daisies she glued on one by one – adorn the walls of her Miami gallery. The prints range in price from $1,your creative source for silicone bracelet business cards with your specialized.200 to $3,000.

During the 1950s and 1960s, Yeager was one of the top fashion models and photographers, publishing about a dozen books. She shot stills of the Swedish actress Ursula Andress, who was starring in the 1962 James Bond film "Dr. No." The famous shot shows the actress in a white bikini, a knife sheathed at her side.

Yeager continued to work, but over the last decade, several magazines began to struggle or went out of business. Yeager was no longer in demand.

"There was a big portion of time where I hadn't been doing anything," Yeager said of her hiatus. "It wasn't that I was retired, it's just that nobody wanted my photos. I had no requests. No inquiries. Nothing. It was like I didn't even exist."

But in 2010, the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh held an exhibition of her work. Now, there is the Miami exhibition.

"I haven't gotten used to it yet,High quality plastic card printing for business cards," Yeager said of the recent attention. "And I still get that little tingle when I see the photos on the wall."

In her studio, Yeager keeps a stash of photos no one has seen in cabinets. Some she plans to save for her next book. Others will serve as a snapshot of what's yet to come for Yeager and the next generation of female photographers.

The other move was Paul Demny being placed on the

First baseman Adam LaRoche's three-run shot lifted the Nationals to a 5-0 advantage early versus the Diamondbacks last night. That kind of rush of offense, and runs for Gio Gonzalez, had been rare so far this season.

LaRoche said the fact that he was able to really crank it was a welcome change from his recent at-bats.

"I am starting to feel better," LaRoche said. "I got some hits last week, but not really driving the ball."

"We haven't jumped off with five or six runs, but we have jumped out with a couple of runs early and shut it down for five or six innings, and got ourselves in trouble," LaRoche pointed out. "We are saying (to) keep pouring it on. How many runs we get early going into the next inning like it is a tie ball game and keep scoring.

Tuesday's three-run shot was LaRoche's first homer since May 28. He had seven home runs in May and three in April. Could this be a sign that LaRoche will get on a power streak? LaRoche said it has happened before.

Minor league note: The promotion of right-handed starting pitcher Taylor Hill from high Single-A Potomac to Double-A Harrisburg demonstrates that team's need for another starter in the rotation.

It would appear that also points to right-hander Taylor Jordan getting the call-up to the Nationals for Saturday in New York against the Mets. The other move was Paul Demny being placed on the temporary inactive list and Brian Broderick transferred to Potomac.

Miriam Siebenberg lives in a very unusual house – unusual because of the fact that her home was built on top of another home, one that existed over 2,000 years ago. Within the ancient walls of Jerusalem’s Old City, Miriam and her husband Theo purchased a house after the Six Day War, eventually discovering that it contained a treasure trove of history buried deep underground.

In the Siebenberg’s house, a collection of archaeological artifacts discovered after years of digging in the basement, appear on display. Arrowheads, ink-wells, coins, ancient pottery,The Brilliant Polish of a tungsten jewelry What is Tungsten? a glass cup and pieces of jewelry including a bronze key ring, likely used in the Second Temple era by a woman to unlock her jewelry box, can all be seen in the display.

But even more intriguing is what lies beneath their home. One can see the remains of an ancient Jewish residence and a way of life that dates back to the days of King Solomon and the Second Temple period. “The further we dug, the more history we uncovered,” Seibenberg told Tazpit News Agency in an exclusive interview.

Siebenberg credits her husband Theo with the drive to initiate the not-so-simple years of digging under their modern four-story house that eventually led to the archaeological discoveries

“When we moved into our finished home in 1970, Theo had a feeling that there was much more to this place,” said Siebenberg.

At that time, archaeological discoveries by Hebrew University archaeologists in the Jewish Quarter including the area around the Siebenberg’s home were making headlines.Click on their website www.smartcardfactory.com for more information. The Siebenbergs believed that perhaps there were artifacts buried under their home as well so Theo applied to the Department of Antiquities for a permit to excavate beneath their house.

“We invested our own money, brought in engineers, architects, archaeologists expert diggers, and donkeys to remove the rubble, digging up to 60 feet down to discover all this,” Siebenberg explains.

During more than 18 years of unearthing, the Siebenbergs discovered a ritual bath, known as a mikveh used by Jews during the Second Temple era, an aqueduct, a Byzantine water cistern, and even empty burial chambers believed to have been used by Jewish royalty in the 10th century B.C. during King Solomon’s reign.

Eventually, the remnants of the base wall of what is believed to be a Jewish home that stood 2,000 years ago, were also uncovered as were ancient Hasmonean stones, including one with a menorah engraving. Evidence of the Roman destruction of the Second Temple in 70 C.E. was also discovered –a line of ash sealed into sedimentary rock was sent to a special lab in South Africa for testing, which found that the ashes were indeed from that time. In the 1980s, the story behind the Siebenberg’s basement, which Theo had transformed into a museum for the public in 1985, received much international attention. National Geographic,a high quality women shoes supplier including high heel shoes, the New York Times, BBC, ABC, NBC, and many other international media sources devoted coverage to the history being uncovered under the Siebenberg House.

“We had groups from all around the world visiting our archaeological museum including European parliamentarians, US Congressmen, foreign press and other leading figures,” Siebenberg told Tazpit News Agency.

In addition to the fascinating story of the Siebenberg House, the couple behind the digging has their own unique tale. Theo, named after Theodore Herzl,Our MileWeb managed dedicated server are designed to meet the most demanding requirements for performance, came from a wealthy diamond family in Antwerp that barely escaped Belgium following the Nazi takeover. While not religious, Theo grew up in a traditional Jewish family with a strong love for Israel. Siebenberg eventually emigrated to the Jewish state in 1966 after a series of successful international investments and married Miriam, who was born and raised in Tel Aviv.

“Theo always felt homeless, having been uprooted from his Antwerp home at the age of 16 by the Nazis,” says Miriam. “But he always knew he wanted to live in Jerusalem and as close as possible to where the Temple once stood – the most important place in Jewish history.selection of wholesale fashion shoes such as sandals. This was the only place he considered home in his lifetime.”

Today, Miriam, continues to carry the legacy of the Siebenberg House. This past June, Miriam, with the help of her assistant, 27-year-old Adi Rabinowitz-Bedein, reopened the museum to the general public, providing tours of the home’s unique history while showcasing the archaeological finds. “This is our life’s work,”comments Miriam.

Among gang insignia are the colors red

If you're headed to the Marin County Fair next week, a top civil liberties lawyer advises leaving your Oakland A's and other ball caps at home along with your Ralph Lauren Chaps gear - and in any case avoid wearing red or blue garb, even on the Fourth of July.

Marin's new ordinance cracking down on gang attire at the fair means that "hundreds, and probably thousands" of fairgoers will run the risk of violations,The Brilliant Polish of a tungsten jewelry What is Tungsten? according to a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union, adding that as a practical matter Latino youth are the real targets of a code that in effect formalizes racial profiling.

"Given this county's identified gang population, it is Latino youth who will be taking a risk ... not white youth

wearing the identical items," declared Alan L. Schlosser of Mill Valley, legal director of the ACLU of Northern California.

Undersheriff Mike Ridgway begged to differ, saying the county law does not discriminate and was "carefully crafted by attorneys to pass constitutional muster" while providing a more transparent process that includes advance notice of the gang insignia at issue.

"We welcome everyone at the fair," said fair chief Jim Farley, adding that fair ticket takers intend to wear red and blue Mardi Gras beads on the Fourth of July.

County authorities say gear ranging from a bandana to the color of rosary beads or shoelaces can signify gang membership and prompt turf war among rivals. People who decline to remove

such items can be turned away from the public celebration that begins Wednesday. The fair runs July 3-7.

Law enforcement experts skilled in recognizing gang garb will make decisions on whether clothing or related gear, in combination with other items or factors, signals gang membership. Only those who refuse to cover up or remove offending items will be turned away.

Officials contend the new law simply spells out past procedures involving clothing, colors, insignia, numbers and related "identifiers.selection of wholesale fashion shoes such as sandals."

But Schlosser renewed earlier criticism of the Marin law after receiving from the county a list of gang "identifiers" that are prohibited.

"What this list does is to substitute the vagueness of your prior apparently unwritten policy for a sweepingly overbroad written policy, while leaving intact the unfettered discretion of the officers on the scene, and therefore the susceptibility and in fact near certainty that this ordinance will be enforced based on stereotypes and racial profiling," Schlosser advised the county in a June 21 letter.

"It is my considered legal opinion that the county faces the potential of legal liability if anyone is detained or ejected based on this overbroad and vague policy," he said.

Schlosser noted the county's list includes 69 prohibited items that might be worn by 50 gangs. Among gang insignia are the colors red,Best wholesale fashion women shoes factory manufacturer, blue, red and white or black and white.

"It is ironic that the colors red and blue will be forbidden on the fairgrounds on July 4," Schlosser noted, adding with tongue in cheek: "Caution would suggest leaving your American flag decals at home."

Sports teams on the list include Oakland A's, Colorado Rockies, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, as well as teams whose hats are red or blue, such as the Dodgers or Cubs. Red or blue bandanas, bracelets, rosaries, shoe laces, as well as gear with numbers including 13, 14, 18, 20, 81, 113, 276, 415 and 707, may raise official eyebrows as well.

"Under this ordinance, if one person is wearing an A's hat or a blue bandana or Chaps by Ralph Lauren, and they are walking with or talking with another person" wearing a listed item, "then each of them 'violates the Marin County dress code policy,'" Schlosser observed.

But, he added, the ordinance will not be enforced as it is written. Instead, those technically in violation will be confronted only if "in the subjective judgment of the officer, they appear to be gang members. ... In the real world, the criteria for actual enforcement actions under this ordinance are purely subjective and unwritten." The result is a "vacuum" where "stereotyping and racial profiling come into play."

In the end, the message is that not all are welcome at the fair, especially young people of color, the attorney concluded.

County lawyers said fears of discrimination are baseless and added the new ordinance makes formal and legally defensible policies that have been in place for years.

Deputy County Counsel Ed Kiernan has noted a list of banned gang insignia will be posted on the fair website and available at the gate. "There is no restriction on gang members attending the fair,The smart card has a memory chip embedded in it that," he said. "The bottom line is no one is being racially profiled."

The dress code was unanimously adopted by county supervisors despite worry about racial profiling that Supervisor Steve Kinsey said was a "legitimate concern.Shop the best selection of men's stainless steel ring." The county board asked for a detailed analysis of how the policy works this year.

which had announced expansion plans

On the BSE, shares of Gitanjali Gems fell 19.99 per cent to close at Rs 405.35, while the PC Jeweller stock touched its 52-week low of Rs 84.55 in intraday trading but recovered later to close at Rs 89.35, down 8.55 per cent from its previous close.

Mumbai-based Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri (TBZ) saw a fall of 6.88 per cent in its shares and closed at Rs 181.95 on the BSE. Titan stock declined 0.47 per cent to Rs 221.80 on Monday. However, it had fallen sharply since June 3 when it closed at Rs 289.6.

Analysts attributed the fall to concerns on topline growth in view of the forecast that volume growth in the second quarter would be down by almost half.

Another analyst, AVP at Religare Securities, Vikas Inder Jain said that the working capital requirements will be impacted for some of these companies.

“It will increase, pushing the debt equity ratio higher from the current levels by 0.5-0.8 per cent. This in turn will dent the return on equity and capital employed, and there valuations.”

Some of these companies, which had announced expansion plans before the plunge in gold prices and subsequent RBI curbs caught them offguard, could be in a tight spot, said Sekhar. “They have made investments into it and would find it extremely difficult to reverse, in view of the recent developments.”

PC Jeweller said that expansion plans are indeed on course. The president-finance of the New Delhi-based company, Sanjeev Bhatia said, “There is no change in our plans and we are going to open 14 stores this fiscal.” It opened six stores in the first quarter. Its investment in the seven stores slated to open in the second quarter is about Rs 225 crore.

Companies, like PC Jeweller that lease gold won't be affected by the RBI notification on gold imports through consignment basis, Bhatia said.

In the wake of the unprecedented fall in prices in April this year, the director-corporate ratings at India Ratings and Research, Deep N Mukherjee had said: “The price of leased gold is open-ended and the cost of gold is fixed at the time of sale of gold or jewellery to the customer. This enables retail jewellers to lower inventory risk.”

The call by the All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (AIGJTF), which represents about 90 percent of jewellers, comes just days after financial services company Reliance Capital halted sales of its gold-backed funds.

"As a responsible trade body, we have requested our retailers not to sell gold coins or bars. We need to help the government to solve the CAD (current account deficit) problem," said Haresh Soni, chairman of the AIGJTF, which has more than 40,000 members.

India is the world's biggest gold buyer, and soaring imports have sent its current account to a record deficit. New Delhi has raised the import duty on gold twice since January 1, doubling it to 8 percent, and the central bank has imposed measures forcing customers to pay up front for gold.

"We have appealed to members not to sell coins and bars till our CAD situation resolves," Soni said.Shop the best selection of men's stainless steel ring.

"We expect 1,500-2,000 retailers to stop sale of gold coins and bars immediately," he added.

About 30 to 35 percent of last year's imports of 860 tonnes went into investment demand, Soni said. Most of the gold imported into India goes into making gold jewellery, traditionally part of a bride's trousseau and dowry.

"We are safe guarding the jewellery industry ... (which) generates employment and creates revenues for the government," he said.

On Monday, shares in listed jewellers such as Gitanjali Gems Ltd (GTGM.NS) and PC Jeweller Ltd (PCJE.NS) fell sharply on concerns the government measures could hit their businesses.

Soni said the federation had asked the government to reduce the import duty from 8 percent to 4 percent.

Falling world prices from mid-April triggered a surge in demand globally. India's imports hit a record of 162 tonnes in May, more than double the average monthly import level in 2011, a record year.

The government's and central bank's latest actions to curb buying came earlier this month, and Soni said imports in June had declined drastically. He declined to give specific figures.

Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said last week imports had fallen in value to about $36 million a day from $135 million before the curbs.

But the World Gold Council (WGC) estimated imports could still be 300-400 tonnes in the second quarter - almost half the total for 2012 - and the government itself said imports had exceeded 300 tonnes in April to mid-May.

Domestic prices are already back near levels before the rise in the duty, which indicates demand could revive, particularly as a bountiful monsoon starts to raise hopes of increased incomes for farmers and India's large rural community.

On April 16, domestic gold futures hit a contract low of 25,270 rupees per 10 grams, and they are now trading around 26,734 rupees.

"Demand in India is price inelastic ... the fundamental reasons for gold demand in India cannot be addressed through supply restrictions," said Somasundaram PR, managing director for India at the WGC, in an email.

The WGC last month said 82 percent of Indian consumers in a survey said they thought the price of gold would increase or be stable in the next five years. Many Indians see gold as a sound investment in a country that lacks any kind of comprehensive banking system and with real interest rates stubbornly low.

The cast iron collection boxes are usually emptied

As the unprecedented rains turned Kedarnath into a ghost town with bodies strewn all over, a ‘gold rush’ in the holy town is sending shivers down the spine.

Cash and gold offerings at the shrine are missing and so is personal jewellery,Shop the best selection of men's stainless steel ring. including anklets and gold bangles, of several of the deceased. In some cases, fingers have been chopped off to remove rings. The local police have arrested some persons who tried to flee with the cash.

All agencies working on the ground have confirmed the shameless ‘gold rush’. Pilots of the Army Aviation wing and the Indian Air Force have reported people refusing evacuation to make a ‘quick buck’ off the dead. Special Forces of the Indian Army, which have been looking for survivors, have tried to warn the human scavengers, but to no avail.

DIG Amit Prasad of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which has also sent its rescue teams, confirmed tell-tale signs of scavengers. “Donation boxes at Kedarnath have been broken into and emptied. We have informed the local police,” he said.

The local police’s Division Range DIG AK Sinha confirmed that a man in the robes of a sadhu was nabbed with Rs 87 lakh belonging to the State Bank of India’s branch at Kedarnath. Another man was caught with Rs 83 lakh while others have been caught with smaller sums and gold ornaments. The temple, managed by the Sri Badrinath-Kedranath Temple Committee, opens in April-May for summer depending upon an auspicious time carefully calculated by the religious men. It is during this period that the idol of Lord Shiva is installed in the shrine. In winter, it is taken down and installed at Ukhimath. This year, the Kedarnath shrine opened on May 14 and Badrinath on May 16. The shrine usually remains open till November, but the number of devotees decreases in the monsoon.

Collections run into crores each year and nearly Rs 9-Rs 10 crore is declared each year. Apart from cash, devotees offer gold as well. As this was the peak season owing to summer vacations, donations to the shrine were bound to be high. The cast iron collection boxes are usually emptied under tight security and the contents deposited in the bank. Divisional Commissioner, Garhwal Division, Subhardhan said, “Thieves have been making attempts. The local district magistrate is a member of the temple committee, but he does not enjoy administrative control over it.”

As estimated, 10,000 pilgrims were at Kedarnath when catastrophe struck. Lakshman Singh, an ITBP assistant sub-inspector and eyewitness, said, “There were 10,000-12,000 persons at the shrine when the catastrophe struck on June 16. With the administration is yet to arrive at a death toll, it is anybody’s guess what thieves have fled with in terms of gold jewellery.”

Desperate young mum raises deposit to buy her first home

Fran, of Bath, Somerset, said she was delighted to buy the house - but is now living in an “empty shell” after selling everything.

She said: “It came to that time when I needed to buy my own house, I’ve always wanted to own a home, I want to provide a bit of stability.

“But I realised I couldn’t really afford it unless I sold my own stuff for a deposit. Shop the best selection of men's stainless steel ring.I’m one of those people that once I set my mind to it I will do whatever it takes to get there.

“If I have to sacrifice those things then I will. I sold everything I owned, from my motorbike, sofa, clothes and shoes. I even sold creams and oils I haven’t used.

“I have sold whatever there is you can sell, you wouldn’t believe it. I had friends messaging me asking if I was selling my whole life.

“I’m over the moon to have finally done it, but I’ve been left in a bit of an empty shell now. I’ve got a mattress on the floor and my daughter’s got her bed and that’s about it.”

Fran decided to sell her possessions in January this year after she worked out she could halve her monthly outgoings if she bought a house.

She currently pays £900-a-month in rent, with bills on top,Best wholesale fashion women shoes factory manufacturer, and calculated that mortgage payments would be much less.

The enterprising mum used free internet sites such as Facebook and Gumtree, as well as car boot sales, to advertise her stuff.

She sold many of her items to complete strangers and managed to negotiate prices with fellow tenants for white goods like her fridge-freezer and dishwasher.

Fran also parted with many of her prized possessions, including precious jewellery and ornaments, and sold most of her vast collection of shoes.

She sold each of her 30 pairs for £10, and raised £300 towards her total.

“Same with my shoes. I was just hoarding stuff I didn’t really need.

“The only downside is that I didn’t get half as much as what they were worth but you just want to make sure you can get what you can.”

This move will benefit jewellery exports

With an aim to increase jewellery exports, the government on Friday increased the duty drawback rate by Rs 73 to Rs 173.7 per gram on gold ornaments. Duty drawback is the refund of duties on imported inputs for export items.

The drawback or tax refund rate for "articles of jewellery and parts thereof, made of gold" is "Rs 173.Molded Soft PVC coaster with your custom design and colors.70 per gram of net gold content (.995 or more purity) in the jewellery", a Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) notification said.

The earlier rate was Rs 100.70 per gram. The drawback rate has been increased at a time when large import of gold is impacting the country's current account deficit (CAD), which is likely to be at a high level of around 5 percent of the GDP.

The government had raised import duty on the precious metal to 8 percent with an aim to curb the gold demand. The RBI has also put restrictions on banks imports of gold.

Sources said the drawback rate has been increased to offset the increase in import duty of gold. The government had not increased the drawback rate when the gold import duty was increased to 6 percent in January.

Ajay Sahai, Director-General of apex exporters body FIEO said the move will help jewellery exporters who are looking to increase the exports to USD 50 billion this fiscal as against USD 40 billion in 2012-13.

"This move will benefit jewellery exports and help them in offsetting the high duty which they are paying for their import components consequent to hike in the import duty to 8 percent," he said.

Gold and silver imports rose nearly 90 percent to USD 8.4 billion in May. Cumulatively, in April-May the import of precious metal stood at USD 15.88 billion. High CAD hurts a country's foreign exchange reserves.

While the Central Zone police were focussed on propping up security for the Assembly’s budget session, elsewhere the gang of four was in the process of snaring its first target. They took away gold jewellery weighing 210 grams from a senior couple at AC Guards in Nampally on Friday morning, posing as policemen.

Three hours later, they tricked a 50-year-old woman to part with 60 grams of gold ornaments at Ashoknagar of Chikkadpally. An hour later, another old woman at Musheerabad was targetted.

To masquerade as policemen, target lone women on the streets and snatch their jewellery is an old modus operandi. An aged woman wearing gold ornaments is usually accosted by a member of the gang of robbers, who introduces himself as a policeman. He berates the dame for walking alone with jewellery on her self. More often than not, the trickster is clad in a safari suit — akin to a policeman on special duty — making it easier for him to con gullible folk and decamp with their valuables. In the guise of helping her, the conman collects the ornaments, packs them in a paper or cloth and gives the packet back to her.

With a deft sleight of his hand, the trickster pushes the jewellery into his pocket and hands over a packet filled with stones, without arousing an iota of suspicion in the woman’s mind.

Instead of a single member, four or more members confront the woman. Claiming to be a police on patrol duty, they ask if she was not aware of ‘police instructions’ that people should not roam around wearing jewellery.

Even before the woman can react, they persuade her to remove her jewellery.manufacturers and Double sided PET industry tape Products suppliers Directory. As the woman hesitates, their associate turns up, acting as a passer-by. The latter, who would be wearing a chain or bracelet as part of the plot, is also ‘reprimanded’ and told not to move with jewellery.

“The associate, pretending to be following their instructions, removes his chain and puts in his pocket. Usually, this is enough to make the woman follow suit,” police say.

It also helped the tricksters that the whole of the Central Zone police were engaged for Assembly security arrangements. Even the crime wing police were drawn for bandobust duty.

who also extended his Colorado record for consecutive

Bryce Harper was a very visible presence at Nationals Park early Sunday.

He took batting practice on the field for the first time since going on the disabled list June 1, and the first 15,000 fans received Harper bobblehead dolls.

But he wasn't in the lineup on yet another day when his bat could have made a difference.I was looking for an option to Customizable Ear Caps to wear with my half.

Colorado's Michael Cuddyer homered in his first at-bat to extend the major league's longest hitting streak this season to 21 games, and Ross Detwiler gave up seven runs in just 3 2-3 innings, and a Washington comeback fell short in a 7-6 loss.

Washington dropped its second straight and fell to 37-38, six games behind Atlanta, which won at Milwaukee. The Nationals trailed 7-0 in the fourth,Buy Promotional Anti-scratching PET protective film Products at Phones. but pulled to 7-6 with a four-run eighth.

"It was a good effort coming back a little and scoring some runs late which, we've been doing a lot more lately," Washington third baseman Ryan Zimmerman said. "A step in the right direction."

Zimmerman had an RBI infield single in the eighth inning, and a second run scored on the play when Rockies short stop Josh Rutledge booted the ball. Jhonatan Solano pinch hit and lined a two-out, two-run double to centerfield.

But Ian Desmond struck out, and the Nationals' failed to score in the ninth.Best Buy has low prices on digital photo frames and digital picture frames.

"Lately we've played two or three good games in a row and then gone right back to where we were," Zimmerman said. "Long way to go still, just got to keep taking the positives like today and go with that."

In his shortest start this year aside from a May outing he left early due to lower-back spasms, Ross Detwiler (2-6) allowed a season-high seven earned runs — three more than any other game.

"Basically he's a sinkerball pitcher. He's still very young, learning how to use all the weapons in his arsenal," Johnson said of Detwiler. "Today he didn't feel like he had a good sinker so he threw more changeups. It's sequence pitching.Shop wholesale Antistatic PET protective film Products from cheap Pet Protective. He's been relying since he's been here basically on his fastball.

"It's a good hitting fastball club and if you don't hit your spots — sinkers down and away — they're going to hurt you," Johnson added.

"They didn't hit the ball that hard today," Detwiler said. "There was two hard hit balls, and everything else just fell in."

In eight starts before going on the disabled list with a strained right oblique, Detwiler fashioned a 2.76 ERA with 23 strikeouts and 10 walks in 45 2-3 innings.Choose from a large selection of Customized Silicone Bracelets to raise awareness. In his last three starts, the left hander has allowed 14 runs in 14 2-3 innings and his ERA has risen to 4.18.

The Nationals managed 13 hits and five walks off Rockies pitchers, but went just 3 for 14 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base.

Harper, who hasn't played since May 26 due to left knee bursitis, is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment this week. The 20-year-old outfielder put a batting practice power display for those who arrived early to get a Harper bobblehead, but then his day was over.

Washington right fielder Jayson Werth started after missing Saturday's game with flu-like symptoms, but left in the fourth inning following his second hit.

Johnson said Werth was examined by the team's medical staff and diagnosed with a left groin pull. It's uncertain whether Werth, who recently returned from a right hamstring injury, will need to go on the disabled list.

"Know more tomorrow," Werth said "I think I'll be all right. Groins are pretty straight forward. I've had a couple of them in the past, but never missed any time so I'm hoping that will be the case."

Cuddyer, who also extended his Colorado record for consecutive games reaching base to 40, had an RBI single in Colorado's three-run third inning and a two-run single in a three-run fourth, an inning Nolan Arenado led off with a home run.

That gave Jorge De La Rosa (8-4) a 7-0 cushion. He allowed seven hits in six innings, trading both his earned runs for outs in the bottom of the fourth.

whose implementation began in Lagos in January

However, there have been arguments from both sides of the divides on the desirability of extending the project to other states when the operators and regulators were still battling with multifarious challenges in Lagos, where the pilot scheme took off on January 1, 2012. The CBN maintains that the Lagos experiment met its success benchmark, therefore, it was important that other states partake in the project.

The Deputy Governor, Operations, CBN, Mr. Tunde Lemo, who is the arrow-head of the policy, admitted that though there are indeed some fundamental flaws but overall, the ordinary Lagosian will admit there is revolution in e-payment system in the state.

He explained that the states and the FCT were chosen because of the large volume of cash transactions in some of their major cities, adding that in order to achieve the target, the banking watchdog and banks had already drawn a road map, which is being followed meticulously.

It is believed that CBN and other facilitators actually jettisoned a nationwide roll- out in order to address the challenges facing the initiative. Lemo explained that the apex bank is also being careful to ensure use of resources in a smart way as cash does not flow in the same volume in every state of the federation. It is also on record that analysts, operators and some other stakeholders aligned with CBN’s decision to limit the second phase to five states and FCT.

The cashless policy, whose implementation began in Lagos in January, last year, is aimed at reducing the dominance of cash in the financial system. It implies the migration from cash-based economy to electronic payment channels.

The policy was borne out of huge cost of cash handling which is said to constitute 30 per cent of banks’ operating cost. This in turn results in the high rate of interests the banks charge for loans and other facilities they extend to their customers, which directly affects funding of the real sector of the economy.

The cashless initiative basically includes internet banking, Point of Sale (PoS), Automated Teller Machines (ATM) and mobile money, among others. It is essentially to break down the traditional barriers hindering financial inclusion of millions of Nigerians and bring low-cost, secure and convenient financial services to urban,Metal Repair Aluminum foil tape Products is also excellent for metal. semi-urban and rural areas across the country.

In addition, the cashless policy aims to curb some of the negative consequences associated with the high usage of physical cash in the economy, including: high cost of cash management; high risk of using cash; high subsidy; checking high cash usage at the informal sector and inefficiency and corruption which enables corruption, leakages and money laundering, amongst other cash-related fraudulent activities.

Under the policy, the CBN pegged the daily cumulative cash withdrawal or deposit limit for individual accounts at N500, 000 per day and N3 million per day for corporate accounts. The processing fee for withdrawals above the limit for individual customers and corporate bodies was also put at three per cent and five per cent respectively, while third party cheque was pegged at N150, 000.

Promoters of the policy had listed the expected benefits in relation to the consumers, corporations and the government.Online shopping for Business Work Card holder from a great selection of Office Products. For the consumers, they will have access to convenient service; more service options; reduction of risk of cash-related crimes; cheaper access to banking services and access to credit. For corporates, the policy is expected to lead to faster access to capital; reduce revenue leakage and cash handling costs, while on the part of the government; it will lead to increase in tax collections; greater financial inclusion; increase economic development, increase tax collections and greater financial inclusion, among others.

Despite challenges such as that of infrastructure, inter-connectivity and inter-operability facing the policy, key officials at the apex bank have said the Lagos pilot policy has achieved huge success. According to CBN Governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, the success of the Lagos pilot project necessitates the commencement of the second phase on July 1,Visit us to find a company offering a flexible Protective film Products. stating that it is fulfilling the financial inclusion strategy of the apex bank.

Justifying the extension, Lemo, said the policy is achieving its desired result and needed to be extended to some other states.

However, there are divergent opinions on the success or otherwise of the policy in Lagos. To a banker, William Amiebenomon, the cashless initiative is one of the best policies that have happened to the nation’s financial system. According to him, apart from the fact that the banks have been stressed to churn out e-payment products, many Nigerians are being attracted to the banking system.

Pricesely, he said the level of acceptability and usage of e-payment channels such as the ATM and PoS could only be compared with the developed economies of the world. He aligns with CBN’s plan to extend the policy to other states, noting that it will be a smooth migration to cashless economy.

Another top banker with first generation bank, Mrs Tope Akingbola, said despite few hitches, the cashless Lagos scheme has recorded remarkable success. Akingbola who works in the ICT unit of the bank admitted that they had been stressed beyond limit to meet customers’ expectations, stating that it is good for the system.

However, to an average market woman and operator in the informal sector, it is not yet time for celebration. Apart from the ATM channel, they believe the policy is essentially for the elites. They crave for more financial education to be part of the scheme.

A popular fish seller in Ikorodu market, Alhaja Modinat said she has not seen PoS in her life, she claimed that there is no such e-payment device in the market. She admitted to having an ATM card which she said was “forced” by her bank to collect.Find a variety of monolayer protective film Products.

A financial expert and Managing Director, Financial Derivatives Company (FDC) Bismarck Rewane, said the greatest challenge facing the policy is infrastructure, especially availability of power. He observed that high penetration rate of mobile phones will, within the next few years, make payments easier, and revolutionise the country’s financial and banking landscape, adding that this will enable banks to innovate and earn new commissions from financial services and increase their net banking revenue.

In a nutshell, the Lagos pilot project is on course. The implementation has brought lot of innovations on the deployment of e-payment products by banks. While the PoS and ATM channels are basically left for the masses,Worldwide leader in PET protective film Products and Coated Papers. only the financially educated ones have enlisted into other e-payment channels. In Lagos, people now pay for utilities in the comfort of their homes. Even petrol stations, PHCN, eateries, shopping malls now accept cards as means of payment.

The scenario in the jewellery market in Oman

All these followed the Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's remarks that the US central bank would taper its $85 billion monthly bond buying programme.

When the prices of gold had started rocketing sky high during the last two years, it became the preferred investment option. But now with the prices started falling like ripe fruits, many investors began asking a question -- will the yellow metal continue its glitter?

According to an analysis, "gold futures are in a basing pattern after selling off sharply... Similar to oil futures,This vertical Cable Organizer can be mounted to either. gold futures prices are coiling up as well and could go in either direction."

Once again, the Fed cannot prevent it".

The scenario in the jewellery market in Oman once again shows that gold is still an attractive investment mode.

"Consumers are still buying gold in record amounts, and this is particularly evident in physical investment, such as bars and coins, and also jewellery", says Jose K F, Regional Manager, Joy Alukkas.

According to him, sales registered 30 to 35 per cent jump after the Fed comments on bond- purchase scale-back hit the markets. On closing yesterday, one gram gold cost RO 16.07.Soft Winbo Key Cover decorates your key in fashionable ways. Jose expects the upswing in gold jewellery demand to continue as investors find it a safe haven deposit.

All the jewellery shops in Muscat have been clocking growing demand with consumers, mainly Indians, buying gold coins and ornaments. "We believe the demand will be robust in the coming days as well, as the drop in the price of gold has only increased the appetite", remarks Najeeb, regional head, Malabar Gold.

Many Indians buy gold coins as an investment for their children, allowing them to make their own jewellery later in life, he says.

World Gold Council figures show that India's gold demand is expected to be around 965 tonnes in the 2013 calendar year, up from 864 tonnes last year, thanks to favourable prices.

In the first quarter of 2013, though, imports declined 5.7 per cent, as traders relied mostly in stocks to meet rising demand.

In the January-March quarter, gold demand rose 27 per cent in volume terms to 256.5 tonnes, compared with the corresponding period last year. In value terms, demand jumped 32 per cent.

In the US, figures for gold jewellery purchases are up 6 per cent, and as people have started to reconsider buying gold as an heirloom and investment, the country has seen a 43 per cent upturn in demand for gold bars and coins.

At the same time analysts say that since the economic fundamentals in the US are looking a bit better, market may continue to witness drop of gold and further strengthening of dollar.

Rescuers working to evacuate stranded pilgrims claim to have recovered over Rs 1 crore over the past two days from the last few batches to be airlifted, money that had apparently been looted from this devastated town.

The stolen jewellery and money, some of it in muddied and wet bundles of cash, amounts to Rs 1.25 crore and will be dispatched soon to the district magistrate by the NDRF and ITBP.

Officials said many of those trying to make away with the loot were religious men or "babas", and were only caught because of some alert troopers. Given the offerings made at temples in the holy town, cash to the tune of crores changes hands on a regular basis.

The single bank that serviced the town has been washed away, as is the case with the cash registers and strong boxes in most shops and establishments. Where you obviously completely lose your stuff

Ash McGrath’s 55m goal after the siren in his 200th AFL match sealed one of the great comebacks for Brisbane over Geelong at the Gabba on Sunday.

Trailing by 52 points late in the third quarter, the Lions stormed home with 10 goals to one to claim a remarkable 15.13 (103) to 14.14 (98) win over the Cats.

Brent Moloney, Daniel Rich and Dayne Zorko – after an assist from the umpire’s foot – had all booted huge goals as the Lions managed to level the scores with under two minutes to go.

But a behind from Geelong forward Tom Hawkins put the visitors ahead with less than 30 seconds to go.

Controlled chaos followed as the Lions drove the ball forward via a flurry of handballs, kicks and desperate runs,This Tissue Double sided tissue tape Products is so cool. eventually finding McGrath on the mark outside the 50m as the siren sounded.

McGrath then showed he was the coolest man in the Gabba as he went back and steered his kick home to the delight of the 24,164 attendees and the “restrained fury” of Cats coach Chris Scott.

The Lions’ fourth victory of the season will ease some of the pressure on coach Michael Voss, who was hoping the belief gained will drive his team forward.

“As a coach you have moments where you obviously completely lose your stuff,” he said.

“It’s just a credit to the guys who worked really hard. They’ve shown the capability that the group has … hopefully it can be a bit of a catalyst for us.”

Moloney, who kicked three goals, was one of the best for the home team while veteran midfielder Simon Black turned back the years with a superlative midfield display.

The Cats,This is a universal black magic Cell phone anti-slip mat. who now have a 10-2 win-loss record, looked like they were heading to a comfortable victory and their inability to halt Brisbane’s charge simply came out of nowhere.

Prior to their collapse Hawkins had booted three goals as he threatened to repeat his six-goal display at the Gabba last year, while defenders Corey Enright and Joel Corey were stifling any Lions attacks.

The Cats had three players pick up 31 disposals in captain Joel Selwood, forward Steve Johnson and Mathew Stokes but coach Scott said the loss was a reflection of his team’s patchy form in recent weeks.

“I’m not going to jump to conclusions now, clearly I’m emotional,” Scott said.

“I’ve been really clear that we haven’t been playing well. That’s been happening for quite a while, even through the season. We’ve beaten some good teams but we’ve only played in fits and spurts.

It was here that a small British garrison

In my childhood, there was a board game called Light of Knowledge, which presented a set of questions and answers on various topics such as science, geography and history. It came with the small figure of a man of Greek proportions, who stood on a plastic pedestal with a long, sharp pointer attached to its base. One had to ask a question by setting the needle towards it on the board, and the man rotated on a glass circle to point at the answer, also on the board. So one got to know about everything — from the approximate time of the Harappan civilization, the chemical composition of sulphuric acid to the name of the emperor who founded the Mughal dynasty — simply by placing the man on the circle and watching him spin.

The game made knowledge entertaining by bringing in an element of playful discovery to the process of acquiring it. In later years, whenever I would think of the Renaissance man — as much a scholar of the arts as of the sciences — the spinning man of Light of Knowledge would come to my mind. Sanjeev Sanyal’s book, Land of the Seven Rivers, with its answers to questions such as “Why do Indians call their country Bharat?” “Why did the Buddha give his first sermon at Sarnath, just outside Varanasi?” or “How did the Europeans map India?” took me back to the world of my favourite board game. Sanyal almost makes a thriller out of staid facts as he races through India’s history, from ancient times to the modern age. He has a thesis to prove — “Indians have long been conscious of their history and civilization” — which is contrary to the popular belief that Indians have never conceived of themselves as a nation. It is to Sanyal’s credit that he makes his point without flaunting his scholarship. An economist by profession, he comes across as more of an explorer, who travels the length and breadth of India to discover the premises of his argument,A plastic IC card containing a computer chip and enabling. rather than attempting to fit his journeys into his thesis.

Sanyal’s peppy way of presenting facts gives the book its irreverent vitality. For instance, while talking about how beads and ornaments made of ostrich-egg shells point to the widespread presence of the bird in India in the Stone Age, he says, “It is possible that the Stone Age fashion industry pushed it [the ostrich] into extinction by targeting the eggs.” He lists the advices given by the author of the Kamasutra to the nagaraka (the rich and idle man-about-town) regarding how he should conduct his daily life in a big city: apart from bathing, shaving, getting an oil massage, he should also clean the sweat from his armpits. Sanyal says that the Kamasutra author is quite insistent on the last mentioned step of the metrosexual man’s beauty regime.

Sanyal keeps on picking out the continuities of the past in the present. History returns to life as Sanyal traces its contours in the modern landscape. “The northernmost point of the Aravallis is the North Ridge near Delhi University. Today, college sweethearts cuddle among the ancient rocks, oblivious to both passers-by and history, but the North Ridge was the stage for an important turning point in Indian history. It was here that a small British garrison held out in 1857 against a much larger force of Indian rebels and pounded the walls of Shahjehanabad (what is now called Old Delhi).” This overlapping of different layers of time in the geography of India is Sanyal’s chief concern in this book. He dwells at length on the fate of the river Saraswati, which the Rig Veda mentions as the greatest of all rivers. Later texts talk about the drying up of the river; some say that it went underground. But it survived in memory, bubbling up in legends, folktales and myths.

Rivers die, civilizations disappear, tribes rise and fall: but their traces linger on in the collective unconscious to give a people, in this case, the Indians, a sense of identity fed by the waves of history as well as by the geography of the subcontinent. But this intuitive awareness of the past invariably goes hand in hand with a stubborn refusal to acquire wisdom from the lessons of history. Sanyal writes: “Standing on the banks of the Yamuna in Delhi, I ponder on [sic] the fate of a river killed by ill-advised civil engineering. Did the Harappans feel like this as they gazed on the dying Saraswati?

The concern with water is echoed in the Vedas… Perhaps the ancients too struggled with their inner demons — the suspicion that they may have somehow brought on their downfall by interfering with nature.” Given the kind of treatment that is being accorded to the Ganga now, perhaps one day in the not-so-distant future, this mighty river will also flow in the memory only. Land of the Seven Rivers closes with this premonition, but not on an alarmist note. Sanyal chooses to end by underlining the resilience of the Indian civilization, which has suffered one disaster after the other and still survived. Perhaps it is this undying spirit that will see the country through the dying of the Ganga too.

In the last part of the book, Sanyal presents an empirical case-study of the urban villages in and around Delhi. His analysis of the phenomenon of “new India”,Transportation China IC card Applications Ceremony. dominated by those “climbing into the middle class from the slums and small ‘mofussil’ towns” — is quite convincing. It will match the readers’ experiences of the expanding urban spaces. Sanyal smartly pre-empts any accusation of condescension that may be levelled against his argument: “No matter what the snobs of the old middle class may say, this [the mainstreaming of mofussil culture] is generally a good thing.”

The section, “The Great Indian arc of the meridian”, in the chapter, “Trigonometry and Steam” stands out from the rest of the book. Here Sanyal describes how the British mapped India.A stainless steel bracelet for every occasion. The three pages on the “acerbic genius”, William Lambton, the superintendent of the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India, potentially contains a historical novel on the man who crisscrossed India with his theodolite in the early 19th century. The theodolite is an instrument for measuring angles necessary for creating an accurate map.

“Trudging through jungles, mountains, farmlands and villages with a heavy theodolite in tow must have been very difficult work...High quality plastic card printing for business cards,Discover the durable and attractive wholesale tungsten ring. At each location, the theodolite had to be dragged up to a height in order to provide a reading... In 1808, Lambton decided to use the massive eleventh-century Brihadishwara temple in Thanjavur. Unfortunately, the ropes slipped and the theodolite was smashed... Lambton worked on the survey till he died of tuberculosis, in the field, in 1823.” Equally novelistic is the story of the Sikkimese surveyor, Kinthup, who was sent by the Survey of India along with a Chinese lama from Darjeeling on an undercover mission to Tibet to find out whether the Tsangpo and the Brahmaputra were the same river. “Such was the world that inspired Rudyard Kipling to write tales of adventures like The Man who would be King and Kim.”
