why a service like Opbeat is a critical
While it’s apparently becoming easier and easier to become a developer — judging, at least, by the number of “learn to code!” platforms popping up by the month — the role of a lead developer and engineer within a young tech company has become increasingly demanding over the last five years. The job description now includes an expanding set of responsibilities. While many have focused on the consumer-side, Paul Graham recently wrote that “startups building things for other startups”have the potential to take off in a big way given the growing pool of potential users — in other words, other startups.
Opbeat, a stealth, Danish startup founded last year, is a startup that’s doing just that — particularly for the many over-worked engineers and developers to be found slaving away at your local startup. Specifically, Opbeat wants to help developers by giving them their own, hosted Control Center for the many web operations they manage on a daily basis — and one that can be set up in a matter of minutes.
By doing so, the young startup has attracted some of the most influential startup developers in recent memory not just as users, by as investors. To wit: Opbeat is announcing today that it has raised two rounds of outside financing from an impressive list of investors, beginning with — most recently — a $2.7 million series A round led by Balderton capital.
The startup also raised a seed round earlier this year from a group of angel investors, which include Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger, Facebook co-founder Andrew McCollum, former Spotify CTO Andreas Ehn, 23 co-founder Steffan Christensen and Thomas Madsen-Mygdal, an early investor in Podio, which was acquired by Citrix last year.
For Krieger, the contribution to Opbeat’s seed financing marks the first investment he’s made since Instagram was acquired by Facebook last year. “When I saw [Opbeat's] approach to taking on the challenges of life for developers, I immediately wanted to be involved,” Krieger says of the investment. Having been one of the leaders of a small team at Instagram that was tasked with scaling the app’s backend all while simultaneously working on building the product itself, the Instagram co-founder says that he “could relate to the serious pains Opbeat is trying to solve on the developer side.”
Opbeat co-founders and serial entrepreneurs Rasmus Makwarth and Ron Cohen say that the idea behind their new startup was born from the frustration of working at multiple tech companies, where they repeatedly ran into the same problem. The small teams of developers and engineers at these businesses ended up wasting weeks and months cobbling together internal tools to manage the company’s web operations.
So, they decided to build a collaborative, hosted web operations platform for developers that can be set up in a matter of minutes, so that, instead of scrambling to apply duct-tape-style fixes and focusing on “maintaing,” they can get back to building the actual product. In a post that’s well-worth the read, 23 co-founder and Opbeat investor Steffen Christensen describes how the role of the developer and engineer has changed over the last five years, and why a service like Opbeat is a critical time-saver in light of those changes.
In the age of web tools and development, while the software stack has “become decidedly more varied,” the prevailing mindset is that operations and management should be easy, he says. Many assume that, because entrepreneurs and developers can turn to AWS, Rackspace or Azure — because hosting and dev tools have become cheaper and easier to procure — that anyone can manage web development. In fact, it results in developers “taking over a bigger and bigger piece of operations and, in many cases, all of it,” Christensen explains.
Today, developers find themselves having to deploy code “across several different services and servers, all integrating with each other and third-party services,” he writes, and “meanwhile, they’re responsible for uptime and stability.” In light of this — and their increasingly important role within companies — developers need a control center.
“We didn’t have the build-or-buy option, so we had to roll out our own fix,” the 23 co-founder continues, but, with Opbeat, lead developers and engineering teams now can farm some of that work out to a third-party.
Facebook co-founder and Opbeat investor Andrew McCollum echoes a similar sentiment in his own recent Opbeat blog post, saying that the up-side of the many new tools and cloud platforms available to developers is that it’s now easier “to deploy and scale web than ever before.” As a result, many startups and founders are electing to “forgo a dedicated Ops team for longer,” instead leaving deployment and server management responsibilities in the hands of developers.
McCollum says that he thinks Opbeat can be a “powerful new tool in this burgeoning DevOps movement,” because it enables engineers to “move faster and spend less time fixing things when they break.” In turn, for teams that may not have the same “resources of Facebook,” he concludes, Opbeat can help them “adopt some of the goals of rapid development and empowering engineers” that one usually only finds at larger, well-financed tech companies.
The Opbeat co-founders are convinced that the problem the company wants to solve is one that many startups across the map are currently wrestling with and, as a result, presents a significant market opportunity. For now, linux dedicated server the co-founders say that their key focus is on developers in the U.S., where they see the largest need, and that their new capital will help be used to ramp up hiring and help Opbeat do some scaling of its own.

If you are looking for higher levels of privacy
It is important to note that not all colocation facilities are built equal: for example, carrier hotels and regional network hubs deliver even greater benefits by providing the highest concentration of on-network providers. These facilities give partners the option of choosing from a wide range of network providers that offer competitive prices, as well as the ability to eliminate cost based on proximity. This benefit can be particularly important to enterprise companies with high or unlimited bandwidth needs.
Large colocation facilities also offer significant benefits of scale. By utilizing large power and mechanical systems,The Career best choose Career at MileWeb. the facility can provide high uptimes and speed as well as the ability to efficiently appropriate additional resources and quickly grow alongside your company. By working with a colocation partner, you have the confidence of knowing that additional IT resources will be available when needed.
On the other hand,Learn about MetLife's MileWeb Corporate Profile including its service offerings, IT operations need to seriously consider the implications of the move to a colo environment. It can be difficult for some companies to find a colo facility close to their business, which can make traveling to and from the facility for server maintenance and upgrades costly and unappealing. Many data centers offer options to handle the maintenance for you, but it is up to you to research and ensure their engineers, electricians and facility managers, and the service contract, meet your expectations.
An important variable to consider when it comes to colocation is the data sent between your server and the Internet. Make sure that you accurately estimate the amount of traffic your company will use monthly and that you demand the proper allotment, since increases in traffic can lead to overage costs. Proper planning and working with your colo provider on bandwidth allotment can ameliorate this issue, but this is another variable companies must think about when looking at colocation partners. Choosing a data center that can provide robust connectivity options from diverse network providers will help to reduce these costs further while also providing increased confidence that your connection will always be on and fast.
If you are looking for higher levels of privacy, some facilities also allow partners to buy wholesale data center space to build custom data centers. Intended for particularly sensitive data, this option will allocate dedicated power, cooling and security systems exclusively for your business. who helped battle the flames
Five days later, the downtown here is still a no man’s land, a charred, contaminated place where police and firefighters struggle to empty flooded basements and sift through piles of ash for body parts of 50 missing friends and family.
The runaway train that jumped the tracks here early Saturday, and the billowing explosions of crude oil that followed, have stunned and transformed the 6,000 residents of this village.
“We take it one day at a time — or half a day or every hour — but sometimes it’s too much,Worldwide leader in PET protective film Products and Coated Papers.” said Guy Boulet, 54, whose sister is among the missing. Twenty others have been confirmed dead.
Barred from a half-square-mile where they had shopped and walked and passed the time, many residents now gather behind police tape for hours at a time, staring blankly toward a downtown where fireballs from 72 tanker cars, without warning, turned an ordinary summer night into a terror-filled day.
“A lot of my friends are dead,” said Gilles Fluet, as he stood motionless Wednesday near a cordon of police who blocked access to downtown.
The mushroom-shaped plumes of oil-fueled flame are estimated to have reached 1,000 feet into the sky, visible for many miles from this lakeside village about 10 miles from the Maine border.
When the explosions began, recalled Marc Chaput, 46, “I ran up the street with my daughter and could feel the fire on my back.”
The short-term legacy of those flames could keep many residents from their homes for weeks. But the long-term effects, particularly the emotional ones, are difficult to gauge for the town, where the economy turns on wood products and tourism.
“We just want to go home and retake our lives,” said Luc Chaput, 47, Marc’s brother and a former firefighter who helped battle the flames. Chaput, his brother and niece, and his mother are staying with friends until they are allowed back in the house they shared.
Most people here appear to know someone who died or is missing. As Boulet said, the tough times are only beginning as shock is replaced by the reality of the unthinkable.
“It’s more than awful. It’s incredible how we feel,” said Boulet, whose missing sister, Marie-France Boulet, owned a negligee shop beside the tracks where the derailment occurred.
The Boulet family of 11 siblings — now, 10 — knows she is gone.
“The day after,All the latest Releasing film Products in small size and in resumable. we wait and wait and wait for her call — to hear her say, ‘I’m safe. I’m in a safe place’ — but we never had any news,” Boulet said. “The day after, we have adrenaline. But now, the adrenaline leaves.”
Boulet, who owns a family- run furniture and appliance store, fought back tears Wednesday as siblings visited one by one to comfort him and each other.

Boulet’s daughter, Caroline, said she believes the town will regroup. “All together, we will pass through this,” she said.manufacturers and Double sided PET industry tape Products suppliers Directory.
But questions of liability persist, and the board chairman of the corporation that owns the Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway, whose train derailed, was jeered Wednesday at a public appearance in Lac-Megantic.
Edward Burkhardt, board chairman of the railroad’s parent company, said the train’s engineer appears to have failed to set the hand brakes properly. “I think he did something wrong,” said Burkhardt, president of the Rail World Inc. board.
The engineer, the only crew member on a train of five locomotives and 73 cars, left the train parked about seven miles outside Lac-Megantic while he spent the night in a hotel. That procedure is routine, railway officials said, while employees take required rest and wait for replacements.
But later, sometime after a small fire was extinguished on one of the locomotives by local firefighters, the train began rolling downhill. By the time the train approached the village, unattended, the oil-filled tankers were traveling at 50 miles per hour, police said.
The timing of the derailment, in the dead of night, could not have been worse for dozens of patrons crowded into Le Musi-Cafe, the most popular nightclub in town and where most of the missing are believed to have been.
The region’s two favorite bands had been playing,Visit us to find a company offering a flexible Protective film Products. and Jean-Pierre Roy, 52, deflected a suggestion to leave, ordering another beer with the woman he’d taken on a first date.

Negotiating with a reasonable value draws
Many of us can still hear the admonition of our parents, “You’ve got to learn the value of a dollar.” From our first piggy bank to our current savings and investment plans, we have been faced with the value of our hard earned dollars.
What happened when you started your business? Every dollar you invested was stretched to make it produce as many more as possible. You learned the value of a good product, reliable employees, and faithful customers. Your customers have come to expect quality from you, and they are willing to pay for it. You keep them by meeting or exceeding their expectations. The same thing holds true for your employees. They expect fair wages and comfortable working conditions. In return, they provide you with the human capital to run your business smoothly and when they exceed your expectations, you reward them generously. As these finely tuned gears run smoothly together, your business continuously churns out greater expectations, quality, and value.
Value is what you have been striving for all along. Your business has finally reached peak production and you are ready to sell. It is time for all those years of dedication and hard work to pay off. Your business is so lucrative you are sure of its potential value. Or are you? Your knowledge of your business’s value can greatly affect the sale of your business. Having unrealistic expectations can lead to disaster and financial ruin.
Selling a business differs greatly from selling a home. However,Metal Repair Aluminum foil tape Products is also excellent for metal. there are similarities. A friend recounted the following story over dinner recently:
Ellen and James loved their home. They spent years customizing it to fit their dreams. From the hand-laid wooden floors,This Tissue Double sided tissue tape Products is so cool. family theatre, and custom bookshelves to the exquisite landscaping, in-ground pool, and lighted grounds they had done everything to improve every aesthetic detail.
Then James’ company moved to a more strategic location. To maintain their lifestyle they would have to follow the company. Ellen and James stayed up nights making calculations. Their biggest concern was the value of their home. They counted every penny they had poured into it and came to what they felt was a fair price. James negotiated with a realtor and set the price. Though duly warned about the market and appraisal value of the house, the couple felt their home would sell itself to the right family. The right family came. They were hunting for a house and decided to check out an overlooked neighborhood. We offer a great selection of women's boots and ladies shoes wholesale.
The “For Sale” sign caught their attention and Ellen and James were overjoyed at the prospect of selling the house so quickly.Products from Global Silicon protctive film Products Suppliers. This new couple loved the house as much as its owners. However, the price was beyond their budget. Their offer was 20% lower than the owners’ expectations. Ellen and James roundly refused their offer and showed them the door.
Months passed and a few stragglers came to look at the house.Forward wholesale fashion shoes sold by the case for your stores and boutiques. None of them had the same tastes as Ellen and James. All the possible buyers viewed the house in terms of what needed changing, and consequently, each offer was lower than the first. The owners had refused contact information from the first buyers. Today James and Ellen have two mortgages. Moving day came and went. The house is still for sale below market price.
Negotiating with a reasonable value draws your buyer closer to your side of the bargaining table, and in some instances, it can completely disarm your buyer. If he is reasonable and your value is accurate, your buyer will know that you have done your homework and also that he is dealing with a serious seller. The buyer will relax and as the tension eases, you can close a deal with both parties satisfied.
How do you pin down this elusive market value? Where do you find that solid documentation so dire to selling success? It seems apparent that an appraisal is necessary, but how do you obtain one? How do you know it will work in your favor?
You can choose to do it yourself and spend precious time trying to figure the value of your business. You can pull out scads of records and use rolls of tape on your adding machine. You can pore over market reports and comparisons. You can purchase software and try to input the proper figures into the proper boxes, only to find you are in no better shape than a wild guess would have gotten you. You might decide how much you need for whatever reason you are selling your business and use this figure as a measuring stick. You might believe a fast quarter is better than a slow dollar and you might lower your price as necessary to get “out from under.” You will definitely be out from under – out from under a nice profit.Read the full story at www.sdktapegroup.com/Aluminum-foil-tape_c557!

how Ryan ended up opening an office
Speaking to Conor Ryan is like interviewing the Duracell bunny after he’s chugged down a dozen espressos. The 52-year-old from Tipperary has a huge amount of energy.
“I wish I’d known about the potential of the Middle East 20 years’ ago,” he says about his move to Dubai.
The director of Pan Euro Foods began his career as a farmer in the 1980s. After more than six years working the land, he decided he preferred promoting food rather than producing it.
“I moved into sales and worked for some great companies, including Kerry Foods and Avonmore,Forward wholesale fashion shoes sold by the case for your stores and boutiques. over the years,” he says.
In April 2000, Ryan set up his own business. “We started off selling chickens as well as boiled and peeled eggs.”
As the business grew, the demand for certain produce clearly reflected Celtic Tiger Ireland. “We moved into importing foods like pesto, sun-blushed tomatoes, olive oil from Spain and duck from France. ”
Unlike the Celtic Tiger, Ryan’s business continues to roar.Metal Repair Aluminum foil tape Products is also excellent for metal. “We have more than doubled and sometimes tripled our business year-on-year. I think it’s a mix of timing and aggression that makes it a success. I am never happy and am always looking for new brands to promote.
“Whenever I travel, I go to a local supermarket and see what’s on the shelves,” which is exactly how Ryan ended up opening an office in Dubai. “I stopped off there on the way to South Africa to visit a friend and have a few pints. We went to the supermarket and I saw big gaps on the shelves, so I decided to see if I could start exporting brands there.”
Ryan’s clients include a list of Irish products as well as European brands. “There’s a huge demand for Club Orange,Products from Global Silicon protctive film Products Suppliers. Ballymaloe Relish,We offer a great selection of women's boots and ladies shoes wholesale. Kooky Dough, Glenisk, Cashel Blue cheeses, Dunn’s seafood and Clonakilty pudding abroad. We also promote a company from Down called Mash Direct that makes pre-packed mashed potato, carrots and parsnips and turnip. They are flying off the shelves.”
But while these brands many be popular with Irish people living abroad, that’s not who Ryan is targeting. “I think you limit yourself if you are only aiming to sell to the Irish. I’m interested in promoting good products, wherever they come from. This Tissue Double sided tissue tape Products is so cool.”
With over three decades of experience Ryan is keenly aware of Ireland’s strengths and weaknesses when it comes to promoting food produce.
“We are considered quite a green and organic country. Traceability is also one of our strongest selling points in terms of meat and dairy.
“However, I think many Irish companies fall down when they try and sell their product outside Ireland. People think they can just export a few boxes directly to a company, but they don’t realise there is a lot of red tape involved.
“For example, everything we export to the Middle East has to be relabelled with Arabic ingredients and the best before date added according to local law, which all has to be done by hand in a warehouse first.”
And that’s where Ryan and his team at Pan Euro Foods come in. As well as outsourcing, he employs about a dozen people, including his wife-to-be Julie. The couple are getting married in September and, never one to miss an opportunity, Ryan has timed their honeymoon to coincide with one of the world’s largest international food fairs. The pair have no plans to slow down once they get married.
“Our next goal is to expand into Asia and open offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore. There is huge market potential for dairy there. The cow doesn’t work in Asia because of the climate, so beef and milk products are big sellers.”
2014 will also see Pan Euro Foods push to expand in the Middle East. “I’m really hoping to get established in Iran in the next 18 months. There are 85 million people there, so it’s a huge market.”
But having a seemingly endless supply of energy to succeed doesn’t make it any easier to do business in the region as Ryan understands.Click on their website www.sdktapegroup.com for more information.

Soon Olson added educational workshops
The business owner confronted Cole, and the two men went back inside the building. Cole became angry, started yelling at the owner and tried to take back his job application, according to the complaint.
The owner wanted to keep the application because it was the only way he had of identifying Cole. A struggle began when the owner attempted to keep Cole from leaving the building, according to the complaint.
Two employees arrived to help the owner,Forward wholesale fashion shoes sold by the case for your stores and boutiques. and Cole began kicking at the men and trying to get away, according to the complaint.
For their own protection and to keep Cole from leaving, stocks a huge selection of aluminum foil tape. the men used duct tape to bind Cole’s feet together, Wood County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Quentin Ellis said. When a deputy arrived on scene, he found the duct-taped man waiting for him.
The owner told authorities he found a wallet containing $100 had been removed from the center armrest and was on the driver’s seat where he had found Cole, according to the complaint.
Cole told the deputy he had gone into the owner’s truck to take something,Online supplies a large range of double sided tape. according to the complaint. He said the wallet was in his hand several seconds before the owner came outside to confront him.
It wasn’t long, Olson says, “before I kept getting requests for other situations, especially for bands who needed rehearsal space on short order—and for short periods of time,Matco Packaging Llc suppliers of BOPP tape, even just a day.”
In 2006, Olson was able to acquire the facility at 2818 Index Rd. just off the Fish Hatchery Beltline exit. From the start he designed everything from scratch with one goal in mind—that the facility would be about musicians and their needs.
Within a couple of years, people started to rent out space in the Foundry for music lessons, eventually leading MMF to see education as the core of its operation. “In five years, the Foundry has gone from zero to more than 20,000 lessons in a year, around 500 per week. Every room [of the seventeen in the main building] is filled from Monday through Thursday, 2–9 p.m.,” Olson says.
Soon Olson added educational workshops, like the Rock Workshop. The website description of the Rock Workshop is crystal clear about what it entails: “In Rock Workshop everyone is a rock star. Over the course of ten weeks, bands practice with an instructor, write originals, record at professional recording studio Blast House Studios, and play a packed show at Madison’s top rock venue, the High Noon Saloon.” Kids and adults alike are welcome at the Rock Workshop, and more than one hundred fifty students in sixty-plus bands have recorded well over one hundred songs and played thirteen live shows.
Rick Tvedt, the founder and executive director of the Madison Area Music Association and contributor, has a keen awareness of the significant impact the Foundry is making. “The thing that sets the Foundry apart is the instruction; not only do kids and young bands get to rehearse and record, but they get taught by some amazing people,” he says. “I can’t begin to imagine what my life might be like if I had had the Foundry when I was growing up. My first experience in a studio was in 1982, in Boscobel—I think we used 16-track tape! But now students from about thirteen to seventeen years old get to go into a professional studio and learn real production values. That opens your mind up, and you never hear music the same way again.”
But adding a professional recording studio to the Madison Music Foundry nearly remained a dream; in fact, the Foundry itself almost closed just as Olson was getting on his feet.
“In 2011 I had twenty teachers who were making an important part of their living at the Foundry, and I had my first quarter where I was going to be in the black,” he says. “But in the wake of the financial struggles going on, my note got called early. In November 2011 I started thinking I was going to go out of business, but I fought tooth and nail and ended up in a better place.”
Olson found a smaller, local bank that not only allowed him to refinance the Foundry, but also keep Blast House Studios, an existing professional studio on nearby Jonathon Drive he purchased in 2009.
The last eighteen months have not only seen the Foundry jumping with increasing activity, but it has also been recognized for its myriad unique qualities. Last October, Isthmus awarded Madison Music Foundry a “Bridge Builder” award, and in early June, MMF won a Dane County Small Business award, which recognized the Foundry for its workplace environment and impact in the community. We offer a great selection of women's boots and ladies shoes wholesale.Read the full story at www.sdktapegroup.com/BOPP-tape_c556!

They three were evaluated on professional appearance
Caitlyn Gerlach was selected by judges during the first day of the 161st county fair.
She was crowned at the Wilbert Betschler Memorial Grandstand Wednesday between classes of the Badger State Tractor pull by 2012 Fairest of the Fair Willow Hombsch. Also on hand was State Fairest of the Fair Steffanie Koch of Dodge County.
Gerlach was one of three women vying for the title and public relations position of “Fairest of the Fair.” Kamilla Thoma and Mary Wentzel, both of Watertown, also were contestants.
“I am pretty excited,” Gerlach said. “It’s an honor. Working with both of these other girls is amazing. I’m so glad I got to share my experience with them and I encourage them to try again.”
This year’s Fairest of the Fair season began with Jefferson County Dairy Breakfast. The three contestants passed out brochures and met with the more than 1,500 area residents attending the Fair Park event.
It offered an opportunity for judges Trent Topel, an area businessman from Cambridge,Matco Packaging Llc suppliers of BOPP tape, and Staci Hoffman, Jefferson County register of deeds, to meet the contestants.
On June 3, the contestants had a day full of activities. While technology services vendors have been pushing
The strong, specific and definitive position of the AG’s Department on how various kinds of government data may or may not be used in the cloud is likely to present new challenges to some applications vendors which have been pushing the agencies to move to subscription licencing models that often rely on overseas hosted instances.
Under the new cloud policy, government buyers could potentially require sign-off from two government ministers to ensure accountability and assessments from risks depending on the kind of information proposed to be sent to the cloud.
The PSPF was the biggest overhaul of government security classifications, information security management standards to date and heralded the conscious move ‘risk-based’ approach to security rather to replace the increasingly complex, onerous and compliance driven Protective Security Manual that was in essence a pre-internet (let alone cloud) document.
Importantly, the classification overhaul removed a key demarcation between national security and non-national security classified information and replaced it with a single, more streamlined system that takes account of the fact that the bulk of sensitive government information often relates to the private sector and sensitive personal information covered by the privacy act.
The PSPF overhaul was largely driven by the fact that agencies are increasingly expected to deliver services online and also stipulates the need to factor in “Business Level Impacts” when assessing the potential for negative consequences in the case of breaches or so-called data spills.Check the following list of cheap dedicated MileWeb linux dedicated server.
Those impacts now also include reputational damage, the risk of litigation and the potential loss of trust from customers and partners.
"The policy will aid decision-makers in determining when to allow the use of offshoring or outsourcing on a case-by-case basis," Mr Dreyfus said.
While the new policy is being sold as bolstering the National Cloud Computing Strategy released in May this year, the realpolitik of the document is that it compels agencies to perform a more stringent set of risk-based checks.
It also strongly re-asserts the role of the Attorney General’s Department as the lead agency with which custody of government security policies, including information security, ultimately rests.
While technology services vendors have been pushing hard for agencies to enter into cloud-style deals to generate new sales and cost savings, it is understood that some offerings marketed as fit for government use have sometimes prompted more questions than answers from those checking the fine print on data sovereignty.
The strengthened security position is likely to benefit leading local and global cloud companies like Telstra and Amazon Web Services that have played a longer cycle strategic game by investing in onshore hosting facilities rather than selling on price and speed alone.
Telstra remains well-placed to pick-up more government cloud-computing work because it can potentially offer customers, especially smaller to mid-size agencies, a full suite of bundled applications, voice, video, carriage, compute and storage services.
Aside from its exiting backhaul and hosting infrastructure, Telstra’s huge portfolio of property assets in the form of exchanges – which could be liberated of copper PSTN infrastructure under the National Broadband Network give it a geographic footprint that is hard to rival.
The AG’s cloud computing policy is also a sign that a the government is starting to regard cloud installations as a maturing offering that buyers can now realistically take advantage of in an informed and considered way rather than relying on less concrete guidance.
But it has been a time coming. Cloud was considered one of the glaring omissions in the first sweep of Gershon review that imposed a now lifted moratorium on new data centre deals at a time when the government was fast running out of capacity.
Those pushing the cloud cause as a means to enable more efficient government are similarly singing the AG’s vision as one that they are wholly in tune with.
"This Government is an enthusiastic supporter of new technology such as cloud computing, especially where it not only facilitates government business but helps us get the best value for the tax payer dollar," Senator Kate Lundy, Minister Assisting for Innovation and Industry and Minister Assisting for the Digital Economy said.
"Cloud technology offers not just agility, flexibility and scalability, but also cost savings. In fact, cloud computing is fundamentally changing the way we think about communications technology.”
Senator Lundy said that combined with the rollout of the National Broadband Network, cloud computing held “the potential to revolutionise how we consume and use digital technology."

which indicated that employees were prohibited
Have you ever sent a dirty joke or picture to somebody's email address? Have you ever sent it to their work email address, whether intentionally or not? Before you ever do such a thing I want you to remember the story of Bob and Doug.
Bob and Doug worked at a call centre in New Brunswick. They had a mutual friend who, in a nine-week period in 2010, sent both of them a dozen emails with pornographic content and attachments.
The only response Bob and Doug made was to one email where Doug told their mutual friend he had too much time on his hands. All of the emails were promptly deleted by Bob and Doug. A few were forwarded to their home email addresses. None were circulated to other employees or anyone else or saved on the system.
Sometime later, the employer's new super duper server found these emails.
They were each called into separate meetings where they acknowledged having received the emails.Check the following list of cheap dedicated MileWeb linux dedicated server. The employer told them that their behaviour constituted a breach of its policies and an irreparable breach of trust. They were both fired on the spot with cause. That means they were not offered any severance package.
The employer had a handbook which indicated that employees were prohibited from accessing, transmitting, receiving or storing discriminatory, profane, harassing or defamatory information on the computer system.
Employees can hardly control what they receive although arguably Bob and Doug should have simply told their friend to stop sending these emails. Also, they should have reported the issue immediately to management. By flipping one or two of the emails to their personal email address, they were in fact, using the company equipment to transmit pornography.
But Bob and Doug had rendered many years of loyal service each with clean records.
Surprisingly, this case made it all the way to the New Brunswick Court of Appeal which ultimately said, "The case at hand deals with the summary dismissal of long-standing employees with unblemished records of dedicated service. They were call centre employees, not morality instructors." The court found that the employer, a call centre, was not warranted in taking a puritanical or absolutist approach to discipline and while a warning or suspension might have been in order, a termination without severance was not.
The court's finding in this case is not surprising. What is surprising is that anyone really thought there was just cause to terminate these employees without any severance package. These cases are viewed by the courts within their context and you don't get to drop the axe on a perfectly good employee for such a minor infraction without having to pay the price.
The more important lesson from Bob and Doug's story is one for their friend. We can't really blame the friend as many people do this … send dirty emails to others. He certainly didn't think he was going to get them fired. But win or lose their case, Bob and Doug were still out of a job and a job is always better than a lawsuit. A successful lawsuit is cold comfort when you have lost your means of support.
Employers are becoming more and more strict in enforcing their computer use policies. A severance package is small comfort for the loss of a regular pay cheque to support your family and yourself. Don't endanger somebody else's employment by sending any kind of humorous or off-colour emails to their work email address.

while stating reasons for the long interval
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has assured that persons who have registered for the National Identity Management System (NIMS) project would be issued their new smart national identity cards between July and October 2013.
The Director-General of NIMC, Mr. Chris Onyemenam, in an interview with THISDAY, also disclosed that over 500,000 persons have so far enrolled for the NIMS project and have received their National Identification Number (NIN),most MileWeb Popular Dedicated Server providers and read user reviews of their products, a set of unintelligent numbers unique to each person.
Onyemenam, while stating reasons for the long interval, explained that before a card can be introduced into the market, a process must be followed to determine if the cards can withstand its parameters.
He further noted that the cards were being subjected to global standards and certifications.
He said: “Before a card type can be introduced into the market, a process must be followed to ensure the card can withstand its parameters. If the card is a ten year card; it must be able to withstand the environment for that long.”
Onyemenam also stated that there are some requirements specifications that go along with card constructions in addition to the quality of the materials used for the card especially the chip and how it has being designed.
He said it was not enough to just award a contract, hence “the card samples must be subjected to tests to ensure that certifications are obtained; we are using master cards and must get master card certifications before the cards can be issued.”
Furthermore,Below is our MileWeb Privacy Policy which incorporates these goals. he said “the outlets inside the chip must meet the standards set for those outlets and it must all pass through the quality check before it will be assembled and tested as one unit.”
“Although the 36 states of the federation have an enrolment centre with at least 10 enrolment units, the commission hopes to open local government enrolment centres in all local government areas and government agencies before the year ends to further quicken the process of enrolment,” he added.
The enrollment of Nigerians and two year legal residents of Nigeria, he explained is a continuous process and has no timeline.
The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday signaled its intention to permit generic drug makers to make changes to their safety labels, a move that could open the door to lawsuits against generic drug companies for the first time since a Supreme Court decision barred such suits two years ago.
Consumer advocates applauded the development, calling it a necessary fix for a system that they say is unfair to patients who take generic medicines.
“It’s common sense,” said Dr.Learn about MetLife's MileWeb Corporate Profile including its service offerings, Sidney M. Wolfe, a senior adviser to the Health Research Group at Public Citizen, which in 2011 petitioned the F.D.A. to pass just such a rule. “It will obviously end this situation where people are being harmed physically and yet, although they are harmed, they have no right to go into court and get redress for serious damages.”
Dozens of lawsuits against generic drug manufacturers have been dismissed since 2011, when the Supreme Court ruled that because the generic companies must, by law, use the same label warnings as their brand name counterparts they cannot be sued for failing to alert patients about the risks of taking their drugs. Last month, the Supreme Court ruled — on similar grounds — that patients also may not sue generic drug makers by claiming that the drug was defectively designed.
The F.D.A.’s intentions came in the form of a bureaucratic step in which the agency must notify the Office of Management and Budget of its plans to publish a proposed new rule. In a summary posted Wednesday on the budget office’s Web site, the F.D.A. said the proposed rule would “create parity” between generic and brand-name drug makers with respect to how they update their labels — the lengthy list of a drug’s uses, dosages and risks.
Under the current system, brand-name manufacturers can change the label if they receive important new information about their drug. If the F.D.A. agrees that the label change is necessary, the generic manufacturers of the drug must also change their labels. The rule change could also allow generic manufacturers to change their labels if they became aware of safety concerns, which could make them liable if a court were to find they failed to warn patients about potential harms.
“It is a first step toward acknowledging that there is a problem with the current system,” said Michael Johnson, a lawyer who represented Gladys Mensing, one of the patients who sued generic drug companies in the 2011 Supreme Court case, Pliva v.Our MileWeb managed dedicated server are designed to meet the most demanding requirements for performance, Mensing. “It doesn’t make sense to have one set of rules for the name brand and another set of rules for the generics.”
The Generic Pharmaceutical Association, an industry group, declined to comment on Wednesday. In the past, generic drug companies have argued against such a change, saying that it could create a chaotic situation in which several different labels existed for the same drug.
Jay Lefkowitz, the lawyer who represented the generic drug makers in both Supreme Court cases, said in an e-mail, “We will obviously look very carefully at whatever the F.D.A.Browse the wide variety of titles distributed by MileWeb Network Services. proposes, if in fact it ends up proposing any change at all.”
The notice posted Wednesday indicates the agency’s intent to publish a proposed rule by September, when the public would be asked to comment.

Wedded to a revolutionary idea
It was 1983 and Wolfson, submitting the paper required of all third-year students at Harvard Law School, had chosen a topic — constitutional protection for same-sex marriage — seemingly so far-fetched that some of the distinguished scholars he had asked to serve as faculty advisers declined.
“The more prominent, more liberal ones who one would have thought would have been most supportive were not,” Wolfson recalled in an interview. “It’s not that they were against it — I think they didn’t see it as that important or that likely to happen and in some cases a little bit trivial.”
A few gay couples had tried to make the argument in the 1970s, following the Supreme Court’s declaration that laws prohibiting racial intermarriage were unconstitutional, and were summarily laughed out of court.
At the time, the nascent legal movement on gay rights was focused more on combating anti-sodomy laws, overturning policies that excluded gays from being allowed to enter the country, dealing with issues of workplace discrimination. Some gay rights advocates didn’t see the point of pressing for inclusion in a traditional, patriarchal system. For others, marriage seemed a nice notion but a foolish priority, given the hostile landscape of existing injustice.
Wolfson saw it differently.Video Streaming Server MileWeb Dedicated Server Frequently Asked Question. “You can’t say you’re for equality but acquiesce in exclusion from the central social and legal institution of this and every other society,” he said. “What I felt was we needed to transform the movement from ‘we want to be let alone’ to ‘we want to be let in.’”
Wolfson’s quest for the freedom to marry — he used the term same-sex marriage in his paper, but now bristles at its connotation of difference from “regular marriage” — has been transformed from quixotic to attainable.
With the Supreme Court ruling striking down the Defense of Marriage Act, the federal government is out of the business of discriminating against couples on the basis of their sexual orientation.
Still, for the time being at least, America remains a patchwork nation when it comes to marriage rights. It will require another, major step for the court, one that Wolfson believes is inevitable, to declare that marrying the person you love, regardless of sexual orientation, is a fundamental constitutional right.
Wolfson’s story demonstrates the force of idea combined with execution. It demonstrates how society can be reshaped by the power of a seemingly radical idea matched with — indeed, married to — a carefully calculated, inch-by-inch strategy for putting it into practice.
The movement toward marriage equality for gays and lesbians in the United States was inexorable, and certainly other advocates have helped drive the debate. But as much as any individual, Wolfson served to shape and accelerate the still emerging reality of same-sex marriage. (Disclosure: Wolfson was a classmate in college and law school.)
Wolfson began practicing law as a prosecutor, first for Brooklyn District Attorney Elizabeth Holtzman, then for Iran-contra prosecutor Lawrence Walsh. But he moonlighted on gay rights issues and eventually joined Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, where he argued, and lost, the Supreme Court case involving the Boy Scouts’ right to exclude gay scoutmasters.
But marriage remained his priority, if not one universally shared by those gay rights advocates who feared pushing too far too fast. Ten years ago, when Wolfson founded Freedom to Marry, not a single state allowed same-sex couples to marry. Today, 13 states and the District of Columbia recognize the right to marry.Find a variety of monolayer protective film Products.
In 2011, after New York joined those ranks, Wolfson married his partner of 10 years, Cheng He, a molecular biologist and management consultant. Just before our interview, Wolfson was consulting with an immigration lawyer about his husband, a Chinese-born Canadian citizen eligible for a green card in the wake of the DOMA ruling.
Still, his work is far from done. For starters, 29 states have constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage. Only a Supreme Court ruling can trump those.property within the McMaster community is assigned to the MileWeb Security services Department.
“There’s no question where it’s going. The only question is how soon we can bring it home, and I believe it’s a matter of years, not decades,” Wolfson said. “At every stage of this campaign we were told, ‘You can’t win in court.’ We were told, ‘You can’t win in the legislatures.’ ‘You can’t win Republicans. You can get these MileWeb Exclusive Features if you reach certain.’ ‘You can’t win beyond the coasts.’ ‘You can’t win at the ballot box.’ We’ve overcome every one of those.More than a data storage solution for your MileWeb Storage & Backup Services, We will make this happen.”

The trucks were directed to Scindia House
At least 40 of the 102 canvas bags seized from a consignment being transported by angadias on Monday, were returned to traders after they provided valid documents on Wednesday.
The income-tax department's investigation wing released the bags comprising rough diamonds and jewellery to the angadias after they submitted documentary evidence of ownership. "We released the jewellery and diamonds as they are stock and trade for jewellery traders. Also, according to income tax laws, we can't seize stock and trade.Migrating a MileWeb Promotion Dedicated Server or cloud server from one provider to another is easy. The 40 bags included four that contained miscellaneous articles like clothes,we've decided to make the below MileWeb Termsof Service available. mobile phones and the like.
The decision to evaluate the consignment and release it to the traders at the earliest followed a meeting between the department and representatives of the gem and jewellery association and the diamond merchant association. The associations voiced concern that not releasing jewellery and rough diamonds was holding up trade. They further impressed upon the department that transporting jewellery was daily business for angadias.
Till evening, the I-T department had computed Rs 11 crore of cash from the canvas bags while around 40% of gems and jewellery were evaluated.
I-T director general (investigation) Swatantra Kumar said the holders of unaccounted cash will be penalized. "We have almost completed counting the cash, computation of the value of rough diamonds,Information about the Student MileWeb Data Center Facilities and the hours of operation. gold and diamond jewellery should be over soon," Kumar said, adding no fake currency was found. "Some 10 odd people have given documents to support their claim over the seized jewellery. We are verifying their claims,'' said a senior I-T official.
Earlier in the day, over two dozen angadias gathered outside the I-T office to register their protest. They claimed the consignment was accounted for with proper bills.
The consignment, brought in four trucks to Mumbai Central station from where it was to be loaded in trains to Gujarat, was seized on Monday night. In an operation that lasted almost six hours, a joint team of the National Investigation Agency and the I-T department intercepted the trucks, being escorted by wireless vehicles from V P Road police station. The seizure followed a tip-off received by the NIA. The trucks were directed to Scindia House, Ballard Estate. Reserve Bank of India officials helped verify that all the currency notes were genuine.
Evan and Deborah Price did not know anything had been stolen from their Hastings home - until they saw Tuesday's Hawke's Bay Today.
Mr Price said his wife was reading the newspaper when she came across a familiar looking piece of jewellery on page three.
Curious to follow up on her hunch, she dug out a photo of her daughter wearing that same brooch - 20 years ago.
"Up to that stage we didn't know it was missing," Mr Price said.
With proof in hand, the husband and wife were able to get the brooch back from police.
The pin had been handed down through the women of the family, meaning it had come through Mrs Price's grandmother and mother, and then the jewellery found its way to their daughter.
The police had made an arrest and were appealing to the owner to claim it, which is how it came to be pictured in Tuesday's Hawke's Bay Today.
The pin was semi-precious, and had "more sentimental value than anything else", Mr Price said.Find a variety of monolayer protective film Products.
He wanted to praise the police and said it was incredible how quickly they had returned the jewellery to the family.
He was "not really fussed" about going to watch the youth's court appearance on July 9, because he considered the matter to be done and dusted.
A 17-year-old male has been arrested and charged in relation to a string of burglaries in Hastings and Havelock North.
A member of the public alerted police when they saw a youth trying to break into a car on Whitehead Rd, on June 26. The brooch was found in his backpack when police searched him. The youth also had knives in his possession.

If you are interested primarily in gaining
Fluctuating gold prices may have investment bankers and economists worried the world over, but nothing seems to deter Indians from the glitter of this precious metal — jewellery stores are never empty! Data from the World Gold Council (WGC) for 2012 reveals that the source of the greatest demand for gold remained with individual consumers — a staggering 72 per cent.
Insiders in the jewellery industry report that several meetings of the governing councils of jewellery associations have been held and that there are proposals to suspend the sale of gold coins and bars in order to curb the import of gold and to induce stability in our depleted financial coffers.Although Double sided nonwoven tape Products carriers are generally quite thin, “Such a move would be a patriotic one on our part,” admits N. Ananthapadmanabhan, managing director of NAC Jewellers. “Our motto must be ‘nation first’,” he affirms. However, he suggests a practical alternative for those whose love of gold shines on — “Invest in paper gold, not physical gold. Opt for gold exchange-traded funds. Gold has always been considered a safe haven in India.Metal Repair Aluminum foil tape Products is also excellent for metal.”
Radhakrishnan, M.D. of GRT Jewellers,Welcome to we new store www.sdktapegroup.com. says, “Business has been normal this June. There were many ‘muhurtham’ days. But customers are also waiting and seeing.” Renowned jewellery chains such as GRT and NAC retail an array of gold jewellery and products such as gold coins. This ensures a pot pourri of clientele — from collectors who seek heirlooms, wearers looking at adornment that represent their individuality to those that are specific about ‘0-wastage jewellery’.
Boutique jewellers in the city have similar experiences to share. “We see people buying gold at every stage, whether the price is high or low,” says Sunith Samdaria of Gehna. Gehna specialises in custom jewellery — a relatively niche market with select, discerning customers. But Samdaria admits that “many big orders that were pending because customers were waiting for prices to fall, have been given the go ahead”. S. Ahalya,Visit us to find a company offering a flexible Protective film Products. creative head of the exclusive Rasvihar, says that though everyone has been watching gold prices, her clients “are more focussed on the jewellery than the investment”. It is no surprise that this monsoon, the sheen of gold will no doubt shine through!
The hike in customs duty on gold from six to eight per cent, coming on the heels of several other policy and regulatory measures in recent weeks, is yet another step to limit supply of gold by making it more expensive. Almost all of India’s gold demand is met through imports and this hike will increase the cost of gold for retail customers. What this means is that sales of coins and bar could be curbed temporarily as could the acceptance of gold as collateral for bank loans etc. This also means that it’s currently a buyers’ market and sales are not recommended, especially of bullion.
I stayed away from gold all my life. I was different from others who loved flashing gold and diamond jewellery on important occasions. I never could get myself to buy more gold. What I bought at the time of my marriage seemed enough. And anyway, most of it went into the locker. When gold prices began to move up a few years ago, I realised my negative approach to gold was hurting my wealth. I needed gold to protect myself from the crashing equity market prices. I began to hunt for choices.
There are several products that can be used if you want to be purely an investor in gold, without having to buy, wear or store gold. Gold exchange traded funds or ETFs, gold funds, and e-gold are options for those looking at gold as investment. If you are interested primarily in gaining from increase in gold prices over time, these might be the right choice for you. These options are far superior to buying jewellery. They are efficient, low cost (no making charges and wastage) and easy to implement. Your financial advisor or bank can help you with the actual purchase.
Gold ETFs can be bought from the stock market into your demat account. A Gold Fund of Funds (FoFs) can invest in gold ETFs for you,Our Home power monitor and energy saving devices help reduce energy. but will charge a higher fee than a pure gold ETF. However, you won’t need a demat account, and it offers other benefits such as systematic investment options and easy redemptions. E-gold units can be bought and sold through the stock exchange. The transactions are relatively easier than ETFs. E-gold attracts wealth tax and offers long-term capital gains benefits only if held for more than three years, unlike gold ETFs and FoFs where these benefits are available if held for more than one year.
If your interest is in buying gold jewellery for personal use, or as coins for the near future, then the gold savings schemes offered by jewellers may help. You accumulate your savings over a period to buy jewellery.
These schemes are available in two forms. In the most common form, you pay a fixed monthly instalment over a fixed period to the jeweller. The last month’s instalment is added by the jeweller. This is actually the interest that the jeweller pays for using your money. The accumulated amount is used to buy jewellery at the prevailing market rate on maturity. You bear the making charges or cost of wastage as charged by the jeweller. This scheme is no different from a recurring deposit for buying gold. The jeweller uses the advance paid by you for his business, and you buy gold at the price on maturity, which can be higher or lower from the time you began to save.
In the other kind of gold-saving scheme, you pay a fixed monthly instalment, but the jeweller credits gold to your account at the rate on the date of the instalment. Here, you accumulate gold every month. There is no funding of the jeweller, so there is no free instalment either.
Buy gold or not is a matter of personal choice. But if investment is your aim, don’t buy gem-studded pieces with high making charges, low resale, and low gold component, and imagine that you are investing. Instead, choose efficiently.

If we see consistently that people
According to Lavin, the new reputation system, which replaces the five-star system currently used on Xbox 360, means that "ultimately if there's a few per cent of our population that are causing the rest of the population to have a miserable time, we should be able to identify those folks."
He went on to suggest that players with similar reputations will be more likely to face each other during matchmaking.
"So there'll be very good things that happen to people that just play their games and are good participants. And you'll start to see some effects if you continue to play bad or, or harass other people en masse. You'll probably end up starting to play more with other people that are more similar to you."
Lavin was also quick to make it clear that players won't be able to deliberately reduce someone's reputation by getting a group of friends to give them negative feedback all at once.Metal Repair Aluminum foil tape Products is also excellent for metal.
"Let's just be clear, there is no way at all that a conglomerate of people can conspire to sink your Reputation on the system," he said.
"The way that it's built fundamentally stops that. It's very much over a period of time. If we see consistently that people, for instance, don't like playing with you, that you're consistently blocked, that you're the subject of enforcement actions because you're sending naked pictures of yourself to people that don't want naked pictures of you... blatant things like that have the ability to quickly reduce your reputation score."
The new reputation system aside, Lavin also claimed the Xbox 360's cloud support will also help prevent some players from cheating during games,Welcome to we new store www.sdktapegroup.com. since it will enable more developers to run their games from a dedicated server instead of resorting to direct player-to-player connections.
"I've read on forums that there a lot of assumptions that people are screwing around with their routers for some games and trying to gain unfair advantages," he explained. "We are dead set against cheating in every capacity,Our Home power monitor and energy saving devices help reduce energy. and we continue to make investments to root those folks out.
"Because we're offering all of this free compute power to Xbox One game creators, we're really advocating for server-based hosting. You're going to see a lot of that in Forza - Forza Motorsport 5 is server-based, so it kind of eliminates the ability to screw with your router and give the other person an unfair advantage.
"We believe that en masse, as people take advantage of our cloud compute offerings, that we should start to see a major drop in that problem, with player-hosted multiplayer."

It begins and ends with items directly
Let's be clear, among hotels and motels and even most restaurants and eateries, it isn't much of a battle. By all appearances, not to mention the ubiquitous no vacancy signs and the full dining rooms, all are cleaning up quite handily.
The scrum remains among those scrambling for the discretionary dollars, once the considerable tab for room and board is paid. And there is a clear dividing line among the haves and the have-nots.
It begins and ends with items directly related to the Battle of Gettysburg. Shoppers are casting aside most everything else, spot checks with Gettysburg merchants have found.
Consider Codori's on Lincoln Square. This well-located business prides itself on its "unique gifts since 1973."
But an associate points to the single stand containing Gettysburg post cards and other battle-related trinkets as the store's top sellers. The more unusual, eclectic gifts upon which Codori's prides itself? Well, not so much. At least for now, says clerk Sydney Kauffman.
"People are starting to come in," says Kauffman, holding out hope that as the week progresses, so will sales. "But most of the souvenir shops are doing well. We didn't know what to expect."
Neither did Cathy Leedy, proprietor of the True Friends Boutique on Baltimore Street. She has hats, beads and baubles -- anything a woman might want. Just not this week, ratings of Electricity monitor so you can find the best energy monitor. when the demand is for all-things Gettysburg, instead of all that glitters.
"No,This Tissue Double sided tissue tape Products is so cool. not really," she answers, when asked if business is what she expected when Gettysburg 150 planners told shops to brace for as many as 250,000 tourists.
"I'm busy, but I'm not as extremely busy as we thought it would be," Leedy laments. "I think it was a little over-hyped."
Even worse, those tourist-teeming expectations of tied-up traffic might be working against Gettysburg businesses in two ways. First, for whatever reason, tourism appears to be a bit lighter than expected, some businesses say.
Indeed, Tuesday was markedly slower than Monday, even as planners were expecting the crowd to build exponentially throughout the week. Of course, Pickett's Charge,Scotch No base material double sided tape Products with Dispenser you need for home office or business. always a top draw, will be commemorated today.we offer the world's best selling Home energy monitor solutions. And then comes the July Fourth kick-off of three days of major re-enactments. There is still time.
But the deeper rub is that all overblown predictions of tourist turn-out are also keeping many locals away from downtown, thinking that driving across Gettysburg would suddenly be like moving around Manhattan.
At Tommy's Pizza on Steinwehr Avenue, owned by Cathy Leedy's husband, Bill, the phone isn't ringing. This is a sure sign that locals are lying low.
Luckily, the pizzeria is still cranking out pies,Uline stocks a wide selection of Double sided tape Products. but it is a purely tourist trade. The familiar faces of Tommy's regulars are in short supply.
The same holds for the Varsity Barber Shop on Baltimore Street. The waiting room is mostly empty on a Tuesday morning. And as managing barber Steve Lingg snips a rare customer's hair, he surmises that most of his regulars had a plan. They came in for trims last week, ahead of the road-clogging tourist invasion that was forecast for the 150th.
"It slowed down," Lingg says of his barber business, especially compared with the pre-susqucentenial rush of last week. "We were swamped last week with customers."
Well, not everyone dashed in for a haircut ahead of time. Ken Ortman, who lives five short miles outside of town, bided his time for his barbering appointment. And despite predictions of commuter chaos, he breezed in for his regular trim in all of five minutes. He even landed prized parking right on Lincoln Square.

We try to minimize the divergence of code and rules
The biggest epithet (and sometimes epitaph) in insurance technology is undoubtedly “legacy.” Older systems need technologists who understand that technology rather than a staff that sees the future of insurance in a different light.Enjoy the greatest selection ever of stainless steel pendant.
While putting together his IT department at Torus in 2009, Torus Americas CIO Justin Manley didn’t have the constraints that many of his competitors face. Add in the fact that his bosses at Torus “always go after the best people,” according to Manley, and the start-up company was able to lift the shackles off his IT team.
“One of the things I tried to do is not constrain myself by focusing only on this [insurance] sector,Find great deals on eBay for stainless steel bracelet Bracelet in Fashion Jewelry Bracelets.” says Manley. “I looked for people in adjacent markets—financial services—where certain technical experiences could map well to what we were doing.”
Manley himself learned his trade in other markets. He began his 20-plus years career in technology in the telecom industry before moving into financial services—but not insurance. He moved into the insurance industry eight years ago.
“We were charged [at Torus] with building a 21st century insurance company,” he says. “We did not hire people to build a legacy insurance company. I’ve been building consumer applications—web-based, thoughtfully designed, straight-through processing with minimal human contact if possible.Discover the durable and attractive tungsten bracelet. That’s where we’ve leveraged IT a lot to allow for traditional underwriting to occur with focus and precision and not necessarily incredible human growth. We’ve been able to grow our top line by allowing computers to do things they might not have done in days gone by.”
Two of Manley’s hires came to Torus from JetBlue where they managed the low-fare airline’s online reservation system.
“They are very heavy in the technology we are using,” says Manley. “I look for hunger in people that have been in a position for a while but aspire to go higher and grow. If you are willing to pay the right price you can find anybody.”
One of the challenges of being a CIO with a specialty commercial lines carrier is that it’s difficult to achieve growth as competitors go after each other’s customers. To make Torus stand out, Manley believes the systems should enhance the nuances in underwriting for all the different lines the carrier offers.
“We try to minimize the divergence of code and rules and the need to have a system for every single line of business,” he says. We are trying to maintain the architecture where we have a carrier layer, a line layer, and a product specific layer. Because we started from scratch we established principles: One is the data is king, and the other is integration is the queen.Enjoy the greatest selection ever of stainless steel pendant.Shop the best selection of men's stainless steel ring.”
All of the systems and transactions from a financial perspective are the same, explains Manley. There is a set of data that the carrier captures and with the hub in the middle there is no point-to-point integration between any systems.
“Our claims system does not have any integration with the policy system nor does finance,” he says. “It all goes through the middle. That minimizes number of interfaces and the complexity and allows for a growing carrier to not be inhibited by the growth of a policy administration system if you need to get into a niche business at an accelerated rate of time. The definition of getting the data from that system to any other system is a defined interface. It has allowed us to grow. All the systems get their data from the hub.”
In his work with Torus, Manley is most proud of the Escape broker portal the carrier built in 2010 using Duck Creek (now Accenture) software.
“We focused on usability and design,” he says. “When a broker is putting together a package for the insured they make sure all the coverages are there. One of the last things they do is to get a quote.”
Torus looked at what its leading competitors were doing and tried to put together a better system.
“It could take you 12 minutes to get through that competitive system and brokers were asked a lot of questions that had nothing to do with rating,” says Manley. “You had to answer all kinds of questions before going into what a lot of people call the service black hole.”

when Kris Perry and Sandy Stier of Berkeley
Sporting wedding gowns, tuxedos, leather, beads, bangles,Find great deals on Mens Surgical stainless steel earring, union t-shirts and Free Bradley Manning buttons – and some wearing just about nothing at all – some 1.5 million people poured into downtown San Francisco Sunday to celebrate lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender pride.
The 43rd San Francisco Pride Parade – the largest of many around the nation and the world - came just four days after the U.S. Supreme Court issued two historic rulings: one overturning a ban on gay marriage in California and the other invalidating part of a 1996 federal law denying spousal benefits to same-sex couples.
Joey Cain was preparing to march with more than 1,000 others in the contingent honouring Bradley Manning, the gay whistleblower on trial in military court for leaking classified documents to Wikileaks.
Dressed in a purple shirt and matching hat, a camouflage skirt that Cain said “reclaimed the colours of the earth back from the military,Enjoy the greatest selection ever of stainless steel pendant.” and accessorized with a yellow boa and sparkling disco-ball earrings,Find great deals on Mens Surgical stainless steel earring, Cain recounted his earliest experience in the gay rights movement.
“My first gay demonstration was in 1971 in Buffalo, New York, where we stood outside of a gay bar picketing it because it wouldn’t let same-sex people dance together,” he said.
He marveled at how far the movement has come today: “People can actually get federal benefits” for same-sex partners, he said, adding, “It’s amazing; it really is.”
A former Pride Parade Grand Marshal and member of the Pride Parade body that names grand marshals, Cain created a stir when he nominated Bradley Manning for one of the 2013 grand marshal slots.
The other electors agreed, but Pride Board President Lisa Williams reversed the decision calling it a “mistake”.
“Bradley Manning is facing the military justice system of this country,” Williams said in a written statement. “We all await the decision of that system. However, until that time, even the hint of support for actions which placed in harm’s way the lives of our men and women in uniform - and countless others, military and civilian alike - will not be tolerated by the leadership of San Francisco Pride.”
But Cain insisted, “We’re still declaring him a grand marshal. I nominated him because I felt that ... he wanted that information released so people knew the truth of what was going on so that they could make informed decisions. He put himself in a dangerous position and I felt that was a heroic act. I wanted the LGBTQ community to know more about him and to come out and support him. And we’ve been wildly successful.”
The Bradley Manning contingent – Number 179 out of some 235 contingents – marched behind a banner proclaiming “Pride in our Whistleblower.” Standing in for the jailed Manning and riding in a pick-up truck marked “Bradley Manning Grand Marshal,” was Daniel Ellsberg, 82, who leaked the Pentagon Papers in 1971.
“Free Bradley Manning” placards were carried by individuals walking with many of the other contingents as well and those standing in the crowd.
Removing Bradley Manning as grand marshal wasn’t the only criticism of the Pride parade coming from the left.Enjoy the greatest selection ever of stainless steel pendant.
Deeg, who uses only one name, criticised what she said she sees as the parade’s increasing “corporatisation.”
“Some of these corporations are criminals. They steal people’s homes,” she said of the sponsorship of various banks, including Wells Fargo, Bank of America and Chase. Other corporate sponsors included breweries, clothing stores and manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, HMOs, hotels and media. Many corporations and businesses promoted themselves with elaborate floats in the parade.
Another sore point for some was the military recruiters who had a booth at Civic Center, where festivities continued after the parade.
“I am so angry – first the pride committee dishonours a gay hero by rescinding his election, and then they turn around and invite the military to come here and to recruit young, vulnerable people,” said Code Pink activist Xan Joi. “Exposing them to the danger of the military is outrageous.”
The recruiters’ work, however, was interrupted after the parade by members of the Brass Liberation Orchestra, along with a number of anti-war activists, including war veterans. The group surrounded the recruiters and the band played marching music, making interaction with the public difficult for the recruiters.
Along the parade route, spectators stood five-to-ten persons deep. The event kicked off, as always, with Dykes on Bikes riding dozens of motorcycles, many of them flying rainbow flags.
Loud cheers rose from the crowd when Kris Perry and Sandy Stier of Berkeley, and Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo of Burbank, rode by in convertibles. It was their challenge that resulted in the court lifting the ban on gay marriage in California. Both couples were married Friday.
Parade participants also included around 150 Mormons, marching behind the Mormons for Marriage Equality banner. “Gay kids grow up Mormon – I’m here to keep them safe,” read one of their signs. The Mormon church poured some 20 million dollars into the fight to support the 2008 ban on gay marriage in California.
There were girl scouts, opponents of circumcision, vegans, Latino parents of gays and lesbians, gay police with colourful balloons tied to their squad cars, a hotline for youth trying to understand their sexuality, a bagpipe brigade, and lots of individuals celebrating their relationships, such as one couple holding the sign: “16 years + 3 children, 1 grandchild – finally married. Proud of My Family.”
Alex Aldana, who said he’s undocumented and queer, marched with Undocuqueer behind the banner: “Don’t stop at Marriage. Queers are getting deported.”
Aldana called the defeat of parts of the federal law “a great victory,” giving binational immigrant couples the ability to sponsor their non-citizen partners for residence. Still, the ruling doesn’t help two undocumented immigrants, Aldana said.
“If I happened to be dating someone who is also undocumented, we wouldn’t be able to sponsor each other because he is not a citizen.Shop Stately Steel Circle Drop Chandelier stainless steel necklace,”
Aldana said the Supreme Court rulings won’t help undocumented transgender immigrants who continue “to be not only criminalised by the police department because of their transgender identity, but also because of their undocumented status. They get put into detention centres and they suffer discriminatory treatment.”
Aldana said the Supreme Court decisions are a great victory. But he cautioned, “We want all of our immigrant families to be included in that conversation. That’s a human right.”

The status quo is particularly favourable to America
The saga of Edward Snowden and the NSA makes one thing clear: The United States' central role in developing the Internet and hosting its most powerful players has made it the global leader in the surveillance game.
Other countries, from dictatorships to democracies, are also avid snoopers, tapping into the high-capacity fibre optic cables to intercept Internet traffic, scooping their citizens' data off domestic servers, and even launching cyber attacks to win access to foreign networks.
But experts in the field say that Silicon Valley has made America a surveillance superpower, allowing its spies access to massive mountains of data being collected by the world's leading communications, social media, and online storage companies. That's on top of the United States' fibre optic infrastructure - responsible for just under a third of the world's international Internet capacity, according to telecom research firm TeleGeography - which allows it to act as a global postmaster, complete with the ability to peek at a big chunk of the world's messages in transit.Enjoy the greatest selection ever of stainless steel pendant.
"The sheer power of the US infrastructure is that quite often data would be routed though the US even if it didn't make geographical sense," Joss Wright, a researcher with the Oxford Internet Institute, said in a telephone interview. "The current status quo is a huge benefit to the US."
The status quo is particularly favourable to America because online spying drills into people's private everyday lives in a way that other, more traditional forms of espionage can't match. So countries like Italy, where a culture of rampant wiretapping means that authorities regularly eavesdrop on private conversations, can't match the level of detail drawn from Internet searches or email traffic analysis.
"It's as bad as reading your diary," Wright said. Then he corrected himself: "It's FAR WORSE than reading your diary. Because you don't write everything in your diary."
Although the details of how the NSA's PRISM program draws its data from these firms remain shrouded in secrecy,Enjoy the greatest selection ever of stainless steel pendant. documents leaked by spy agency systems analyst Edward Snowden to the Guardian and The Washington Post newspapers said its inside track with US tech firms afforded "one of the most valuable,Find great deals on Mens Surgical stainless steel earring, unique, and productive" avenues for intelligence-gathering. How much cooperation America's Internet giants are giving the government in this inside track relationship is a key unanswered question.
Whatever the case, the pool of information in American hands is vast. Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft Corp.'s popular Internet Explorer accounts for between a quarter and half of all browsers, according to various estimates. Mountain View, California-based Google Inc. carries two-thirds of the world's online search traffic, analysts say. Menlo Park, California-based Facebook Inc. has some 900 million users - a figure that accounts for a third of the world's estimated 2.7 billion Internet-goers.
China and Russia have long hosted intrusive surveillance regimes. Russia's "SORM," the Russian-language acronym for System for Operational-Investigative Activities, allows government officials to directly access nearly every Internet service provider in the country. Initially set up to allow the FSB, the successor organisation to the KGB, unfettered access to Russia's Internet traffic, the scope of SORM has grown dramatically since Vladimir Putin took power in 2000 and now allows a wide range law enforcement agencies to monitor Russians' messages.
In China, surveillance is "pervasive, extensive, but perhaps not as high-tech" as in the United States, said Andrew Lih, a professor of journalism at American University in Washington. He said major Internet players such as microblogging service Sina, chat service QQ, or Chinese search giant Baidu were required to have staff - perhaps as many as several hundred people - specially tasked with carrying out the state's bidding, from surveillance to censorship.
Americans' "position in the network, the range of services that they offer globally, the size of their infrastructure, and the amount of bandwidth means that the US is in a very privileged position to surveil internationally," said Wright. "That's particularly true when you're talking about cloud services such as Gmail" - which had 425 million active users as of last year.
Many are trying to beat America's tech dominance by demanding that US companies open local branches - something the Turkish government recently asked of San Francisco-based Twitter Inc.Find great deals on Mens Surgical stainless steel earring,, for example - or by banning them altogether. Santa Clara,Shop Stately Steel Circle Drop Chandelier stainless steel necklace, California-based WhatsApp, for example, may soon be prohibited in Saudi Arabia.
Governments are also racing to capture traffic as it bounces back and forth from California, importing bulk surveillance devices, loosening spy laws, and installing centralised monitoring centres to offer officials a one-stop shop for intercepted data.
Middle Eastern governments have installed Western-made surveillance technology to monitor domestic communications in bulk sometimes with help from the very same contractors which do work for the NSA.
India's government has begun deploying a centralised system which would route the nation's Internet traffic through a single monitoring point - one of several countries working to give law enforcement a one-stop shop for intercepted data.

Too bad that the first time I saw the show
currently housed in Ecatepec, an industrial area about 45-minute drive on a good day from the Centro Histórico of Mexico City, is said to be one of the largest and most important collections of contemporary art in Latin America.
Started by Eugenio Lopez, where cards are embedded with chip card and a cardholder. sole heir to the multinational Jumex food and fruit juice empire and a heavyweight player in the world art market, the international collection includes not only blue chip artists like Cy Twombly, Carl Andre, Bruce Nauman, Andy Warhol, and Jeff Koons, but also current art luminaries like Mike Kelly, Francis Alys, Doug Aitken, the late Félix González-Torres, and Rivane Neuenschwander. Not to mention every important contemporary artist in between, plus emerging Mexican artists.
It's located in a stunning space inside the Jumex factory complex, though you will have to surrender your passport in order to get in, even with a prior appointment. In November, Jumex plans to open a new five-story museum, more centrally located in Polanco, Mexico City's answer to Bel Aire, designed by noted British modernist architect David Chipperfield. It will be neighbors with another heavy-hitter private museum, Museo Soumaya, housing the private collection of telecommunications magnate,Find great deals on Mens Surgical stainless steel earring, Carlos Slim — said to be the richest man in the world — international art,Uline stocks a wide selection of double sided tape. artifacts, and historical documents from the 15th through 20th century. Talk about an artistic motherlode. These are just a few of the reasons I love Mexico City so much.
However, "Turn Off the Sun" — the phrase is said to have been taken from a passing comment made by Coleccion Jumex's director and curator as they walked midday from their Tempe hotel to ASUAM in the middle of August — has turned out to be more a misguided, badly planned scavenger hunt than a cohesive, thematically integral exhibition. According to the museum's introductory wall text, work for the exhibition was "selected around the complex relationship between Arizona and Mexico, with broad references to borders, labor, movement, and site," whatever those terms may embrace.
"Turn Off the Sun," according to ASUAM curator Julio Cesar Morales, who worked with ASUAM senior curator Heather Lineberry and Jumex curator Michel Blanscube in organizing the show, is aimed at being "a curatorial intervention . . . based on how . . .this work [can] really reflect the current state of Arizona and, in general, how . . . it [can] create a dialogue between the United States and Mexico."
Unfortunately, very little of this monumental underlying theme comes through when viewing the work, especially since there are no visible wall texts to inform the viewer about the name of the piece,Our offered BOPP Tapes are in compliance with the BOPP tape. the artist, or information critical to a real understanding of and appreciation for a particular work. We're supposed to rely on booklets and schematic layouts of the galleries cued to a separate list of the names of art work and artists.
Too bad that the first time I saw the show, no booklets were to be found in any of the galleries (security has said that they are ripped off with great regularity) — not that they would have been much help in any event, given their academic, art jargon-laden style and failure to connect particular work with the museum's chosen unifying idea of border relations. Hell, I didn't even get to see a number of pieces strewn within and without the museum proper, including an installation by Raul Cardenas/Torolab in the office of museum director Gordon Knox and a site-specific piece mounted on the back and top of the museum by Alejandro Almanza, because of serious lack of identifying guideposts. I ended up reading about them in the spiffy exhibition catalog accompanying the show.
César Morales says he finds wall texts distracting and that "it's more important to interact with the work and have a visceral response to it." My visceral response to the heavily conceptual offerings, even at a second viewing of "Turn Off the Sun"? Total and abysmal confusion, for Find great deals on Mens Surgical stainless steel earring, the most part. And I have more than just a passing knowledge of Mexico and border relations.
